So yesterday I decided that i was going to go and play live cash at the local casino. I live in Seattle so we have a pretty good selection of venues to choose from. I usually play at Muckleshoot because the action is good and they are usually jumping regardless of the time of day. I sit down with 230 in a 1/3 spread game with a buyin cap of $300.I pay a couple of hands and scoop a couple of nice pots and then tank for about thirty minutes. I am sitting UTG and get dealt King Ten of Diamonds. I raise preflop to $18 and get called by the hijack and the button. The flop comes out Kc Ad Qd. I am sitting with middle pair with a gutshot straight draw, redraw to the flush, and the coveted royal flush draw. I check the, hijack checks and the button bets $30. I call and the hijack folds and we go to headsup play. The turn is the 2s. I check the button bets $110. I hit the cooler and tank for like two minutes before making the call and then the miracle happens. The dealer burns the final card and sets the Jd on the board. I immediately check and the button shoves for around three hundred. I snap call and look at the dealer and announce we have a new high hand. I did it. I hit the rarest hand in poker for the fifth time in my life. A Royal Flush. The absolute nuts. I scooped a massive pot, hit the Monte Carlo Bonus and the High Hand bonus. I also got this really cool jacket as well. It was a sick beat yes I kinda sucked out on him but at the same time I had about half the deck in outs so its a call that most players would make. What about you? Would you make the call for the royal flush on the river like I did without the information I just provided?

Yes, it was a call given all the bonuses on top of the pot odds.

In a cash game, maybe it is a good call. Did you have a sense of villain's range/style before making this call? In MTT I would never risk chasing that draw.

Really? For $110 you have a flush draw and a royal flush draw, plus other outs.

Easy call, especially considering all the bonuses and jackpot u talked about, even without those, another K or even a T might be good most of the time, any flush is nuts and any J is nuts so id play it same aswell, gratz and good job :)

I would probably make the call.

I'm guessing that your opponent was yelling at you - telling you how terrible of a call it was on your part.

Congratulations - no bigger compliment than angry poker players at the table!

Good luck !

Yes I would have made the call. You can never make an awesome hand if you don't go for it.
I'm happy for you for making the call and having it turn out right.

If it wasn't a royal flush draw I could see laying it down but with it being the coveted royal flush yes I would have called everytime. Good call

You have to manny outs to beat him(since there were no chances of a full house) you can get the strait flush,the flush or a strait and you would have beat him too,so yes with so manny out i will call even a shove in the turn.

There's nothing like getting the nuts and then getting paid off in the process.

I call because you have all the flush out not just the royal outs I know that's what you thinks plus you have the straight outs on top of it how could you not call he went down from a 30 bet to a 10 bet that was suspect as well makes me think he missed his draw or is just drawing himself so yes damn right I call and bam you hit the granddaddy of them all the royal baby nice hand I hit the spade once or twice before at the Seminole Hardrock in Tampa and got it for like 54K once and once for 24K the other time I hit I for 5k because some else just hit it I also hit several back up pots which are the other suits for 5 and 6k so I like to see other player hit them to nice hit man. I go to Derby Lane some now but there high hand JP's are much lower they payout in the hundreds which is cool I guess but they do it every hour and the whole table get a piece so that's nie like if a player wins the winner gets 500 and they rest of table get 25 a piece or something like that I went one time and hit 3 high hand jackpot in one day.

What about you? Would you make the call for the royal flush on the river like I did without the information I just provided?

Hell to the no!

Here is the situation:

Board: AQK
Equity Win Tie
MP2 59.84% 59.84% 2.90% { KdTd }
MP3 20.65% 18.94% 1.71% { 22+, A9s+, A5s-A2s, KTs+, QTs+, J9s+, T9s, 98s, 87s, 76s, 65s, 54s, AJo+, KJo+, QJo }
BU 16.61% 14.32% 2.29% { 22+, A2s+, K2s+, QTs+, JTs, T8s+, 97s+, 86s+, 76s, 65s, 54s, 43s, ATo+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo, 98o, 87o, 76o, 65o }

Giving the hijack and button reasonable calling ranges, you had 59.84% on the flop. The $30 bet gave you odds of 88 : 30, for an expectation of +$1.35. That's definitely a call, and probably a shove.

Board: AQK 2
Equity Win Tie
MP2 72.35% 70.11% 2.24% { KdTd }
BU 27.65% 25.41% 2.24% { 22+, A2s+, K2s+, QTs+, JTs, T8s+, 97s+, 86s+, 76s, 65s, 54s, 43s, ATo+, KTo+, QTo+, JTo, 98o, 87o, 76o, 65o }

The only question is what were you waiting for? That's an insta-call, and here I would have gotten in all-in, if I hadn't banged it in on the flop, or as high as the spread allowed. You win almost three out of four tries and you're still getting better than even money.

As for hitting a Royal, that wouldn't figure in my calculations. It's nice to get all those perks to be sure, but any ol' diamond would have gotten the same amount of money. I can't figure what that fish thought he had on the river. The board wasn't paired, and the best flush he could have been drawing at was ten-high. If he flopped a nut straight, he played it very badly, letting the flush that beat him come in. Then, again, I don't try to understand why fish do the things they do.

Nice hand.

Too bad you likely lost $70 by not buying in for max.
