Hello,
I am a winning 2NL ZOOM player that will take his shots at 5NL ZOOM soon. In my country (portugal) we have a casino that has tables of 0,50€/1€. First, I was wondering if by beating these limits, I was gonna be able to beat the live 0,50€/1€ game. Secondly, I was looking for what the main adjustments are from online to live play besides the patience to wait for hands and looking for live tells.

Thanks in advance

Good evening,

Check out the rake system. For us, the $0.50/$1 requires a certain amount to be paid every 30 minutes whereas the $1/$2 is a rake % that applies if the pot gets bigger than $20.

It's possible that your raise amount preflop as well as the following bets will need adjustments. Here in Montreal, canada, I play $1/$2 and the average raise pre is about $12 compared to the 2.5 or 3 times the blind online.

If you play with a 4 colored deck online, you might have to face a bit of getting used to Black & Red.

The obvious: make sure you hide your cards well, some players have a lot of practice in the Art of cheating.

Enjoy your Live play, I know I do [emoji873]

Thank you for your answer, they charge 5€/h on the 1€ BB table and the take a % of pot like you said in the 2€ BB tables.
So should I just open with the same sizing that they usually do?

So since you're starting, you might want to avoid the .50/1 and go for the % rake on 1/2 tables.

As for your raise, you don't actually have to do exactly like they do, but don't be surprised when they raise high.

Take time to know your player. Live poker is a game of patience and observation. Take your time and build your confidence and I'd avoid bluffing right off the bat.

Also, you spoke about Tells, which content are you using to help with reading them ?

At the moment I am reading the books Caro's Book of Tells by Mike Caro and Read 'Em and Reap by Phill Helmuth. Would you suggest something else?

Definitely suggesting all the Tells books and videos by Zachary Elwood. Very strong visual content.

I think one adjustment is the caliber of players live at casinos. Many come from a distance, so they are less likely to just throw away their money so easily, because it means another long trip home instead of turning on the TV after you finish poker. There is also the embarrassment factor...players playing live are less likely to make ridiculously stupid moves that you see online all the time...nobody live calls an all-in bet with 7,2 offsuit.

My one piece of advice is to be patient in the beginning. You do not want to go in every hand. Get a feel for the table and get comfortable.
