i was playing in a cash game in a casino that i usually dont play at. i sat down in a $2/5 game. bought in for $500. i noticed that 4 of the players were playing like a team. its like they would raise you out of a hand then when you fold they would check it down and any hands they were in together they would bet weak. if you were in a hand with them they would bet big or rersaise til you folded.

now when i play in bigger games i only go to the casinos that im familiar with. i feel more comfortable when ive played against the players b4. and know the staff and dealers.

That's not rounding that's at best soft playing buddies and at worst colluding. Either way would not play in that game.

That is always one of my worries when I sit down at a table in a new casino, and everybody seems to know each other well and joke around a lot...I have also felt that I was getting tag-teamed. I mainly play at a casino where I know most of the regulars...these guys play almost every day...I come around every 3 months, but they know me and I know them. I feel comfortable that there is no collusion

Make sure you let the casino staff know about such play. Casinos know that this type of play is bad for their business and will take action. I have seen it happen and have seen players suspended/banned from the casino and also not be allowed to be on the same table with their 'friends'. Yes there are many stories out there of staff not doing anything about it but when it effects their business they will take action.

You should always report this type of behavior, people who collude like this need to be stopped. It's awful for the game, makes poker look like a cheater's game. If the floor won't do anything, avoid that room like the plague.

careful

I also have seen this at some small poker rooms, where they back off from the buddies and put pressure on new fish,
i don't spend much time in those scary places.

I haven't ran into this, but I always stay suspicious when someone is at my table and tells one of their buddies to move from another table to ours. I don't know about anyone else, but if I am playing for real money, I would rather not take money from friends. It's different if it is the only table available.

Nobody likes to be tag-teamed unfairly, but what evidence do you have of suspicious play afoot? Not saying it is necessarily the case, but perhaps they all independently believed you were the weakest player at the table (I don't know your skill level compared to them). Even if you turn up empty, I'd at least consider the possibility that it is something regarding your play-style or table image.

It reminds me of the famous poker movie Rounders (great movie by the way and you can watch it free online). I think of the protagonist narrating how groups single out the weak at the tables. He narrated something like: "It isn't that they are working together, it is just that they aren't attacking each other. It is kind of like a group of piranhas: they are all competing for the meal but you don't see them attacking each other."

This line of the movie was one that stood out to me and I am always re-evaluating my own game and table image. We don't want to make ourselves exploitable (or the impression we are exploitable if we don't want that attention), so maybe they all see something we don't yet see in ourselves.

If you stick to tournament play you won't run into that as much.
