So I was playing a freeroll in my local casino recently, and because it's a freeroll and they don't want to pay dealers, you can volunteer as a dealer (you get food and stuff for free) as well as play. This meant the dealer was an amateur. During a hand that I hand that I had folded out of, the dealer picked up the deck to deal a card, but the guard thing at the bottom fell off, and I saw a card.

Being responsible, I announced that I had "spotted a 4 of hearts [don't remember the actual card, but it isn't relevant] at the bottom of the deck" - as which point the floor supervisor got on to me for speaking while I was no longer in the hand and had me sit out 1 circuit.

Is this something I should bring up with the management of the casino? It is casino policy to penalise players who break well-established poker etiquette during tournaments, so I can't fault them there. My issue is how they expected me to just allow a card to be seen by one of the three players in the hand but not notify the other players.

It may feel that you're getting dogged down for trying to be honest. You however are wrong in this point in time. IF you were in the hand at play and didn't fold you saying something wouldn't have come with a penalty but because you folded...even if somebody else spotted the card you are out of the hand and cannot interfere with the action at hand. It's pretty much like saying "damn I folded the 2 of clubs". I know it sucks, but that's casino rules

I get where you're coming from...you didn't want a player in the hand to have an advantage over the others, and for that sentiment you deserve to be applauded. Since you were officially out of the hand, you did, however, break the rules of the casino.

Interesting; I would have wondered what to do, and I am glad to know that I should not say anything.

Haven't done live for years, but I always liked the idea of folks not in a hand staying out of any conversations about said hand.

Every card room I've been to has a policy of "show one, show all". That is, if any player sees a face down card other than his own, everybody gets to see it. This goes whether or notit was accidental. Seems fair.

Every player has a responsibility to uphold the integrity of the game. You were absolutely correct to point out that you saw a card. It doesn't matter if someone DID see the card, it matters if someone COULD have seen the card. Sorry to hear that the room failed to uphold this basic rule of poker.

edit: typo

If you are no longer in a hand, then you should stay out of it. Once you fold you are no different than someone walking past the table blurting out stuff.

It is the responsibility of the dealer and the players sill in the hand to PAY ATTENTION for anything that may happen during play that could effect how the hand is played, not a spectator's

Even though you thought you were doing the right thing, in the eyes of the casino and rules of the game, it was wrong.

Sadly it's not though. He was 100% wrong. He wasn't in the hand , so any of his actions are now void. It sucks because morally he is 100% right but in this case and point he's in the wrong.
