I have not yet been to a casino and played poker, just online.
This weekend its my birthday and I want to go to the nearest casino and play some poker
Can anyone give me any insight on what sort of a bankroll i should take with me, or what sort of limits are usually played?

I would take a look online and there's a good chance you can find out what games the casino spreads. The lowest will often be $1-$2 NL and then something like $4-$8 limit, with $200 being a common buy-in for both.

Ideally you would bring around at least $400, which would allow for two full buyins, but it's also fine to bring less and just hope to run it up while getting the experience.

By the way, take it slow at first. Play tight at first and just work on observing the mechanics of the live game and your opponents. It's different but the live games are soft and a lot of fun, good luck!

It is fine to tell the dealer that you play online but this is your first live play and ask if they could prompt you if needed.

as said above you have to play sober. well, then the fortune will show on whose side the win. but I think you should not take a lot of money, passion will play a cruel joke and spend all their money. but I always hope for the best, not always after all only to lose. so happy birthday and good game!

What everyone else said plus - don't tell players you play win online if you do
, don't chastise anyone or talk strategy, wait for your turn, watch everyone for free information, keep your biggest chips visable, only tip the dealer for decent pots - they can add up.

I love playing in the casino. The cash tables can be brutal, So I find out what tourneys they have on the night I am going and take enough for a buyin and a rebuy plus some money for a couple of beers soft drinks tea and coffee are usually complimentary. Really playing live is a buzz it's easier to watch how people play and decide whether that are TAG or LAG or TP. Time passed so much quicker you normally have a good laugh well I do.

For the most part, just be relaxed and wear glasses and a hat is what I do. I am really not sure myself what tells I give away. Be patient as well, I remember my first experience it was exciting. Hope your first experience is fun. I am sure you will have loved it.

Poker is one activity that you can actually hold your own against top club players and even pros, because the element of luck plays a large part in the outcome...you may not be able to hit a 100 mph fastball, beat Tiger Woods at a round of golf or beat Roger Federer in tennis, but you can get lucky and take a pot from anyone.
As far as the amount of money you take...take what you will not miss...do not put additional pressure on yourself by taking your car payment money and think you can turn it into 3 car payments...start slowly and work your way into the feel of the game.

Well, on my first experience on a casino I started pretty good.
I did not know much of the poker so everybody could tell I was a beginner so they started targeting me. But luckily I always had it!. I seat down with minimum buy in of 100 in a 1/2 not limit. I quickly made 450 dollars. Got lucky, but stayed playing until made a couple of mistake and lose it all at the end.

Live players will know you do not have much experience playing live immediately, so you could exploit that. They will try to out play you. So play your good hand very aggressive and fold mediocre hands coz they will rob you.

I think Collin hit the nail on the head with the first post. You added some more info later that made it sound like you're new to the game and have only been playing for a few weeks / months. With that in mind I would just suggest caution. Losing a bunch of money on your birthday could suck so just take what you don't mind losing. Read up on your game before and after the session and try to be patient. Good luck and happy belated.

This is a similar situation i will be facing soon. There is a casino about an hour and a hlaf from where I live, that holds a daily sunday tournament. I have been playing online now for about 6 months and want to try my hand live. Is there any unspoken rules/etiquette that i should be aware of?

There are some things you'll have to get used to live. They aren't really unspoken though. Just ask questions and players and dealers will help you. You're going to have to learn these things eventually so pretending to know so that others don't think you're some new guy is probably just going to slow down your learning curve. It may even get you some additional action from players who might think you're weak just because most of your experience is from online.

I'm going to go play live poker, sleep and see how I'm sitting at the table and touching the chips in their hands!

Live poker is always more interesting than online. Many emotions.See the bodies of the players.More Excitement and impressions. My first experience was when I was still a child.I came to the slot machine hall, went to the poker machine and threw a coin and I dropped a Royal flush and from there all the proceeds were sent, there were so many coins that they flew all over the hall and floor)I was 8 years old. Then I felt real emotions and adrenaline for life remembered this moment. With dealer in live game not never not played.Played roulette and won many times. The most important thing is to leave with the money in time. The entire entourage casino you not will give simply so to leave.Good luck with your game and more emotions.Remember, you can't beat a Casino. But you can always win.
