Greetings

Next week ill be going to the casino for my first 3/6 limit hold-em game. Some of these questions im sure seem basic for experienced players but any advice would be helpful so i don't look completely lost when i show up.

1) How do I join a table? From what i understand there is signup/waiting list in the poker room.

2) For betting on the first 2 rounds of 3/6 am i only allowed to raise in increments of $3? can i go from $3 to $9 on my first raise or do i have to have someone ahead of me raise to $6 first? same goes for the $6 turn/river

3) Can i get my cheques at the cashier ahead of time or must i get them at the table?

4) If i want to take a break/bathroom can i leave all my cheques at the table or do i need to bring them with me?

5) I feel dumb even asking, but when i want to check do i have to announce it or is there some kind of non verbal indicator i can use?

Any other advice you may have that you can think of i would greatly appreciate . Thanks again.

Good luck on your first time playing live.

1 Yes there is a sign up area if all tables are full. You can call ahead at some cardrooms and join the list then I would recommend calling to ask.

2 Limit means you can only raise 1 unit at a time. BB is 3 so open raise would be to 6 a reraise would be to 9.

3 Yes you can

4 All cheques stay on the table until you quit.

5 Tapping the table is considered a check. Be careful as tapping yourself is also considered a check.

Hope this helps

That one cost me a number of opportunities when I first started playing. after maybe a month I eliminated the habit of tapping my finger when I was thinking about what to do.

It should also be mentioned here that when you put the chips in to call or raise you should also say "call" or "raise" so there are no misunderstandings about your intention.

Great point about saying call or raise - if you put out a single large chip as a raise but do not say raise it is a call.
