If you get to pick the seat take the one that works best for you...i particularly like the 2,3,7 & 8 seats...I find its easier to see everyone and their stacks from these spots...when you are right next to the dealer there tends to be more mistakes that affect you (people acting out of turn including the dealer)....but sitting right next to the dealer is good if you like chatting with them
Otherwise no strategic advantage until other players are seated/known
I do recall once someone telling me that by sitting next to the dealer is good for making you feel more comfortable psychologically sense you have a netural (hopefully) party immediately next to you instead of competitor on each side...i personally dont see that and have been burned too many times by mistakes (
hands mucked, skipped over in action, cant see the full stack of the person on the otherside of the dealer...)
