Who hasn't dreamed about making the final table at the W.S.O.P? The fame , the fortune ,
the bracelet and of course being crowned the winner of the Main event. Hey lets face it,
its the only sport where a person who use to get picked last for kick ball, can be a superstar
in this area.
In this post I want to share a story how I got the W.S.O.P fever. So, back in the day pre black Friday, everybody was giving away free packages to W.S.O.P. party poker was giving away a free package. It was a free roll 5000 entries and one package. So out of 5000 people it came down to me and another guy. I couldn't believe it, if I didn't know better ,I'd say it was fixed for me to win. I never hit so many full houses in my life. The other must of had the same luck I was having, because he was jamming everything. There was one hand that if I would of bet I would of won.
Well,as luck would have it he went on to win it all.but it was exciting to be betting million chips and almost winning a 13000.oo package for nothing. And that what started chasing the W.S.O.P dream . True story....

I don't dream about the main event because I know that I will never have the $10K to buy in, but I had the dream to play in one of the smaller buy in events. Since I was in my early 60s, I decided to wait until I hit 65 to play in the Super Seniors event (min 65 yrs old). Just my luck, this year (2018) I turned 65 and the wsop decided to drop the age limit for Super Seniors down to 60. I would not have been able to go this year anyway, but I was miffed that I would have to compete with all those youngsters (60 - 64).

You should definitely go down to Vegas and play in some of the smaller events if the $10K for the ME is a little pricey for you (as it is for me). I've played in events ranging from $565 to $1500 and each one felt like the ME to me. It's an absolute blast to be part of the WSOP even if not playing in the ME.

I think the main event is all about the experience. Not really about winning or losing. :)

I want to play in the 7-Stud event. ME, I don't think I'll ever be able to afford the $10K.

Bracelet

I would love the chance to snatch that bracelet. I love poker as both player and fan. I have only played in 1 live tournament but many online. I play on cash tables regularly at my local casino.

I can understand why you would like to play in the main event as I would love to as well. I doubt the chance will ever come but you never know.

For me even the thought of playing in the WSOP was beyond my dreams and more of a fantasy. I had played for a seat but like you never won one. The closest I came was 5th in one. Then in February 2012 I playing in a WSOP winner take all event on a subscription site against 321 players. I took the chip leap with 13 left and fell to 2nd at the final table. With 5 players left I started to dream and took every one of them out and won the package. It was only to play in one of the $1,000 events but who cared I was going. 2 days after I won we got a letter home from my daughters school "she was 7 at the time" The teacher congratulating me on my win. We found out she was telling everyone I was going to be in the WSOP. When I asked he why she said she was proud of me. Even my 7 year old knew the importance of this achievement.

My event has 2993 players in it. As I looked around I saw JJ lui at the next table, the one next to her had Greg Raymer at it, Jonathan Little was on the other side and Men the master Nguyen was near by as well. 5 hours in some random player went to sit into the seat next to me, Erik Seidel was sitting down. I was knock out as we were getting close to the money after 7 hours by a player who would finish 7th in the event. Was it the main event, no. Was I living the dream, yes I was. I played with the pros and had the time of my life playing.

The reason I am telling you this is not to brag but to say keep your dream alive. You never know if it will happen to you. There is also many other events that can allow you to win the dream or maybe even you could buy into. We may all dream of the main event but living the dream to play the WSOP is possible. Also look around for other chances to play your way in. They are out there if you look. Yes they are not easy to find or win but you can do it and maybe more than once. December 2016 I won my way into the WSOP giant event.

Live your dreams and best of luck to you.

Thats a super cool story. Keep chasing it. It just takes time, commitment, and BRM to see that dream come to fruition. I'd recommend playing in the smaller big-buy in tourneys to get used to the 'pressure' that comes with playing with the sort of people you'll be playing with and correctly playing your hand in certain tricky spots that are bound to come up multiple times in the tourney
