I'm a DJ on our student radio station. A few weeks ago I interviewed the admin of one of the local poker sites. It's probably testament to the interest that online poker is generating these days, but the switchboard went wild!
That is to say, I got three callers. The first tried to order a large pepperoni pizza with extra cheese from me. The second wanted to know whether I wanted to sell my home. But the third, the THIRD caller was from a girl who wanted to know if she could play a "strip" variation of holdem. She said she was hanging out with some of her girlfriends, and was "bored".
Naturally, my answer was affirmative; we suggested that she play with chips as per usual, just with smaller than average stacks, and that players would get re-buys with items of clothing. I also suggested that she come into the studio and we could pilot what was surely a radio first; at least south of the Hex-river valley. She said that would be "awesome" and was bringing a deck of cards right over. She must have gotten lost though; Cape Town's road system isn't exactly user-friendly...
Strip poker, in my mind at least, has always been 5 card draw. But Strip holdem is intriguing in so many ways. Because it's much more skills-based, you're more likely to get eye-candy while keeping your own clothes on. That said, these kinds of shenanigans normally only happen after the second bottle of Tequila, and I can only imagine that trying to calculate the implied odds of an inside straight draw with one overcard rat-faced with Bianca-Jade's and Melanie's fine mammaries on display in front of you would be a task worthy of the Olympics. Also, HE is still very male-dominated. Good news if you like guys, bad news if you don't. Very good news if you can convince the visiting Stockholm University volleyball team that it's an "easy game".
Has anyone tried playing Strip Holdem? Did it work (as a concept, not as a means of getting people naked...)? Any awesome war-stories? I'm eager to hear.. and so is Tammy, still driving on the M3 somewhere desperately trying to find the UCT Radio offices...
