1) Don't do too many things on your computer (not too much multi-table playing, included)...stay focused on your opponents.
2) If playing live, do not get too friendly or chatty with other players; you may be giving away tells or valuable info.
3) Have a plan...how many days you will play, how many hours each day, how much bankroll to start each day.
4) Divide your bankroll in half to start; I once had a $200 starting bankroll, but only bought in for $100....lucky; first hand lost all in with pocket aces. I had the second $100, and ended the session up $35 overall, which would not have been possible if I started with the entire $200 bankroll.
5) Play your mediocre cards very carefully...there are too many "chasers" out there especially in low limit games. Play your premium hands with courage and strength...don't get stuck losing with KK, QQ, AK because you slowplayed or were too timid to bet aggressively.

I don't think I'm qualified to give advice but the 5 best I've had/read
1. Know your table..observe the players and play.. even online ppls actions give u a lot of information
2. Know when to fold
3.dont play wen angry ie. After a bad beat
4. Don't always raise the nuts. Check or call .. go for max value
5. Be aware of your position on the table.

That last 1 might seem silly to some people but know what position u are in before you act coz the really aggressive player might actually after you or the best player could actually before you and set a trap

My top five tips, for you are as many have already said have patience. My second tip, is play without distractions. Being able to fully focus on the table your on will really help you get to know the other players habits and patterns. My third tip, would be make sure you are fully fresh and have the time needed to play the game you are going to play. You don't want your emotions getting the best of you. My forth tip, would be set up a solid tight table image early on in the game and later on exploit that image in the later rounds. My final tip, have fun don't let the hands get to you. Don't play high stakes if you don't have the bankroll for it.

patience and discipline take up a lot of focus, make sure you have a feel for when to make your moves, ie, how many big-blinds left in stack, how tired you are mentally/physically; if playing with friends socially, have them keep an eye on you; they can impartially tell if you are out of gas better than you.
