So I'm not sure how to keep myself on the tables sometimes. When online, I usually try to measure myself through player points but then I get there quickly through big pots. When Live, I usually go through the biggest struggle when I tell myself I'll stay on the table for an hour or so....i usually pack my bags when I reach a certain stack amount. Should I think about how far I am from the next stakes? Do I get up after up a buy in or two? Should I be disciplined with timing myself through time or not? I feel like there are better poker goals than I know when winning.

well as for me the goal i set is if i sit with say 100.00 at .50/1.00 my goal is to get up when i hit 300.00. if i still wanna play i either wait the time to re-enter that table or just simply change tables. if i plan on changing tables i find a few thatlook interesting and i open the table to watch the action.....if i like the action then i enter that table when a spot opens up. if im close to goal ill leave when a spot opens. using the amount chosen here was easy to make example of...good luck at the tables....pick your spots wisely

Like @letsdothis1 said a good goal for me to reach is 3x the initial buyin amount. I may stand up or continue playing at this point, it just all depends on the feel of the table. If there a still a few players who I know I can beat with reasonable stacks I will stay. If most the bad players ahve already been stacked or left then I will sit out and try to find a new table.

If I continue to find myself in bad spots at a table and believe I am tilting then I will stand up much earlier.

I have to disagree. Wins or losses are not the reason to stay or leave a table. I do agree if you find yourself tilting it is time to go, no matter what.

The reason to leave a table:

1. If 1/2 of the table is better than you, go.
2. If you are tired or just not playing well for whatever reason, go.
3. If the style of the table does not match yours, go.
4. Time is a good reason if you have something to do away from the tables, but leaving if you have been at a table for a set time and plan to immediately sit at another table is a bad idea, IF YOU ARE AT A GOOD TABLE.

Nowa days when I play a cash session online I just buy in and then withdraw my profit,

So effectively I'm using the interest I make from my investment, if you find a soft game there is no reason you shouldn't be able to end on a winning session 8-9 times out of ten if you've studied long enough to have the fundamental skills and respect playing optimally without tilting.

Ofcourse this isn't always possible unless you have a soft site or lots of selection

It depends what you want for me I just use the money to meet my material needs which leaves me with a working wage - It may change as I get better I may attempt to go pro but I know I still haven't peaked so I'll keep improving and focusing on career over poker,

Recently for me, I have been leaving once I win a buy in and coming back in with only profits. Since my BR is low I'm doing this to build little by little trying to minimize my losses. I usually get up for good if I'm mentally or physically tired or on tilt due to a sour run of cards. Just need to find what works best for you (profitability wise) and stick to it. Good luck out there!

This works. There has been times when I think I can stay on some tables and I'm get eaten alive. I've also made mistakes like leaving a table with profit because it's too soft...it was so stupid. I could've wiped the whole table lol

I believe the approximate 2x the buy in is pretty solid. Being new to playing cash, I did not realize that you could not take money off the table you've been playing at. I attempted to do this recently after being up 5x at the 2/4 level. But rather than moving on to another table, I proceeded on with what I had. Needless to say it was a big mistake.

I think you want to stay at a table you are winning at (and one that you think you will continue to win at). Leave if you think the table is more skilled than you and you are consistently loosing.

I used to this but recently I've realized it's the worst thing to do. Since I'm winning, I only leave when the table breaks up (donks leave or bust) or if I get tired, hungry or impatient.

In poker, there is no tactics, win 100% of your money or lose everything. It all depends on the case, experience and luck. You can lose everything, waiting for a good hand. Look at the situation.

I always try to double my buy in... if the table is weak I will play as long as I can make money or get to tired, and whenever im doing I have lost money or doing poorly I leave or take a break, when your play is bad its not smart to try and win what you lost back as you probably will just lose more, take a break and go back later.

Determining when to leave a table based upon how much you win is not a good Idea. If you say when im up 2x or 3x the buyin them im leaving you are leaving a table that you have been dominating. why? stay and take advantage of the table. Your decision should be based on the table dynamics, has the table changed from when you sat down? Are the fish, and donks gone? Are there more tight regulars? Are you tired, hungry, have you lost intrest? These should be what dictates when you leave a table not the amount you have won.
