Maturity doesn't come easy in poker. Take, for example, a situation where you have two opponents sandbagged. Let's say they were each holding a 10, the board doubled tens, so they're willing to go to the mats. This is easy money for you, because you hit your 3rd 8 in secret, giving you a full boat against their trips. You're just about to finish them off, when, wham. The board doubles again, let's say fours. Here's the problem. They now have boats, tens full of fours, but you've only got eights full of tens. If you plow ahead anyway, they'll just take your stack. Maturity is laying it down. Yes, you had it in the bag, but it flipped you, in a cruel way. Cut your losses and preserve the remainder of your stack.
