Just wondering what's the main problem with it

My opinion concerning DONKS has changed over the past few years. Everyone has the right to play how ever they want to. They may hit a few hands with cards like 72o, but just like they won the chips they lose them because they keep playing the same way and out they go when they run into some big hands.Hay,I make some donk bets myself but I don't play the next 3 hands the same way. I go back to my tight game. As for me, I don't see any problem with the way they play. Matter of fact, I like to be at the table with 1 or 2 of them. I'm always helpful to take the chips that they seem to want to give away. I hope that makes sense and answers your question. Never do anything that may run those type players away from your table, because it's like taking candy from a baby. GL to you

I don't feel there is a problem with a donk bet, if you do it at the right spot. There is a difference between making a indipendant donk bet, and being a donk. A donk will play this way repetitively. As PapaC said, they will hit some of their hands but most of the time they will lose so you can easily take their chips when you get a good hand.

If you donk bet too often you become very exploitable. You can check raise these type of players for value or for a bluff.

I agree with TeUnit , donkbet if properly used could be usefull especially if the other has lost the flop and noiw cannot cbet/bluff , but if overused could lead to problems . I make use of it rarily in my game , it depends on my opponent always and the board texture .

I like these explanations above, some time ago I thought thay called it that because it was a bad betting, now I see there is no such thing as bad betting, there is only betting, the way you bet can be right or wrong depending on every situation

Another good reason for using donk bets here and there. It keeps the other players at the table guessing, and that's a big deal. It's about the same as limping into a pot when there is two (no more) others players in the pot. You are able set a good trap by doing that. But like every thing at table. Sometimes nothing works and it can blow up in your face. I don't know how other players play a hand like AA. As for me I try to get all I can out of that hand. I'm not moving all in, but most of the time it does cost them to see the flop and the other cards. It's not easy to sit here and say I do this or that. The only way to know is at the table. And one time I may do this and the next time I do it different. The End. Poker is a game that you never know what's going to happen. It generally makes very little sense to lead into the original raiser. If you have a strong hand you risk losing his cbet. If you have a weak hand you're more likely to be called since the original opener has position and can reevaluate on the turn. So since our reasons for betting are value or bluff a donk rarely functions well as either.

Exactly, and also if you want to do that you will have to work in a range of value/bluff and you will be loosing more money that you wil win

Nothing wrong with that, actually I feel great when that happens to me. Problem is that it does not happen often enough to be lucrative, so you want to avoid placing bets like that. However, the ones who openly criticize your play at the table after winning a hand with a donk bet are just sorry losers, enjoy your win and tell the to go screw themselves.

This is not a donk bet.

A donk bet is when you call an open raise preflop from out of position and then lead out with a bet on the flop. That's it. No other scenario. It has zero to do with being a donk or the strength of your hand. It's just leading the flop into the original raiser.
