It happened to me yesterday in igoodies tourney at 888poker.
After battling 2000 players I made upto 14th position.
14een players were left in the game . I had 150000 chips. I was on 5th position. But I had to face the drought of the cards. I was constantly getting 2 5 or J 2 or J 5 or 3 10. I skipped few rounds sitting on the fence. The blinds went up to 10000. I checked my position. I was now on 14th position from 5th. After few rounds I got A 10 I took risk and went allins but that was a split pot.
Again flurry of lower cards started. My chipstack went 60000 from 150000. It made me nervous. Finally got Pockets 9 and went allins but got out by pocket Kings.

During the drought of 50 minutes I noticed once I got 3 10 and I was going to play that hand but I discarded due to huge risk but that would have been a winning hand as flop came 3 3 8.

Well in the end I was out on 14th position.

The question I wanna ask here-- How to cope such a situation? Or Just play wisely and leave everything on pokergods??

Please input ur valuable suggestions.

Thanks

that's tough. I hate to tell you this but your next step in poker skill is to start playing the other players and using your position. The cards themselves are secondary. join a micro cash game or micro MTT so the cash won't bother you and put a piece of paper on your computer screen covering where your cards are so you can't see them, make yourself play blind, it's amazing how good you will get very quickly. you will notice everything every player does and start to pick up on tells. this will serve you well at the next final table.

Bullshit. Cards are not secondary.

OP - You should use push charts when things get tight, this is something close to what you did and that part is up to luck. Always try to push, very rarely it is correct to call shoves (look up and try to understand ICM).

I like you, I sit and expect the card. Especially when the big blind and the big card does not go, I can not do anything. If you start to bluff sure to get in a trouble. In such cases, I just pick up and throw the same suit to Allin. Or ace with a small kicker.

Yah in final tables we cope with better players. As we don't see them, so we can not play according to the TELLS. Shoving is as risky as getting beheaded. It reflects our immatureness. Though in the end when our piggy bank shrinks then we just go ALLINS and get out of the game. LOL
The solution is somewhere around finding a mediocre hand into a winning hand, though again luck must favours you. Pushing against Bigstack, without playable cards is just like when a mouse falls into a trap. LOL

Stealing blinds is the good way. But It's fact that is frustrating
You had T3, Q2 etc. and fold, than You see flop where You hit a trips or better.... But remember. In poker You should be patient and calm. Play Your best game and pokergods will reward You :D

yeah stealing blinds at final tables is normal, I see that a lot. Or when chip leads goes all in consistently for 5 rounds.

If you have a good stack you should try to steal blinds every 2 or 3 orbits when in position, if your stack is low all you can do is use the push/fold chart.

I think you would then have to play each player that bit more, instead of the cards. Good Luck 2 You!!!

Like others have said it is useful to steal blinds if and when you can.

And with regards to the 3 10 you almost called, that would have been foolish! Just because you're card dead doesnt mean you should play weaker hands.

RE not looking at your cards comment -
I've heard that too, about how good you get if you play the players and don't look at your cards, but I haven't had the guts to do it yet. Also I understand how it might work in real life- you can see peoples mannerisms, but how does that work online? I wouldn't have thought that would work at all, does it?

At that point, it becomes much more important to pick certain situations regardless of what cards you have. All you have to do is pick up the blinds and antes once and you have a whole additional round of play.

Here the only solution. Sit and wait for the card. If the blinds are your stack is 10 times you can throw in Allin and middle card. Steal other people's blinds in front of you if all fold. The main thing to hold on a little longer and get a good prize.

I think there's a really limited number of options really, and no matter what which one you choose you're gonna have to rely on a fair amount of luck. I'd just try and play on position, the reads you've accumulated on opponents and make bets based on what the community cards are (in position) irregardless of your hand

None of what you said makes sense to me. How were you in 5th position with 150k when there were 2000 entrants? I don't feel like doing the math here at 2am, but was this a ridiculous MTT where you start with like 150 chips and 25/50 blinds? LOL Or was this just an unfortunate situation for you where the top 4 (or at least 3?) guys had a TON of chips and you were just the highest of the have nots?

2nd of all, you're in 5th position with 14 to go and should have used this to your advantage REGARDLESS OF YOUR CARDS. Even after you squandered your opportunity and played poorly (sorry just being honest) you were down to 15BBs. Some will say this is push/fold territory but I think that is limited thinking. Plus, you've played so poorly to this point and folded for what sounds like 2 hours, you likely have a tight/passive image built up. They don't know that you just didn't get cards you were comfortable playing.

To reiterate, there are 14 of you left so assuming a good tourney, it is 7 a table. 7 a table (unless this was a 6 max tourney but I'd assume you would've told us that) CAN BE a DRASTIC difference in gameplay and from full 9 handed if played correctly. You should find plenty of spots on the button where you are either open or facing just one limper. If you're unfamiliar in this territory (and it sounds like you are), even when you got down to 15BBs, you don't HAVE to shove given your super tight image. A 2.2BB open will be enough to TID PF often enough and when it doesn't maybe you hit and stick in a good amount or miss and realize you can represent strength.

As others have already stated, the position you put yourself in playing so passively (even short-handed) means that luck and variance are going to be more of a factor than you want them to be. But a 2.2BB open on the button that TID gives you 15k plus any antes to add to your 150k stack. As someone already stated, you just bought another orbit if you want to continue playing passively and praying the cards will come your way. At a minimum, you should be fine until the next time you have position, can try the same thing again and honestly, unless you're unlucky and OOP wakes up with a monster that they'll shove back on you you should be able to extend your stay a little. Maybe you're not in 14th out of 14 any more. Maybe you also waited out a few others who either got impatient or unlucky and you've jumped up in pay.

But basically anything you do other than what you actually did would be better. Not everyone gets hit with the deck on the way to an easy victory like McKeehan last year. Sometimes you gotta be like Esfandiari and put your hopes on 39o. He seemed to more than double up like 10-20 times late in the Main doing that, even against overpairs.

Anyway, I have freeroll problems to deal with right now so can't help you further ATM.

Well I was surrounded by 3 players who were the chip leaders. The player right to me was an Absolute Allin freak. When he went Allins rest of players fold and when he did not take any action player left to me went Allins. I was strangled among them. That was the whole game going on for all the time. I know they were playing the bubble tactics as top 10 were going to be paid and minimum winnings were $100, which is good in a freeroll.
I did learn few things from that, now I focus more on the chip accumulation in middle stage of the game.
In that game I had to face serious drought of the cards. I was ready to shove even I got 10 J or Pocket Twos but that did not happen. Well after that in next two days I won 1st place in level 10 plus touney in 888poker after battling 5000 players. And when I compared both games I found I did get playable cards enough in the latter one like K 10 which is the most powerful I find in middle stages of the game and in Shoving as well. Well that is all. Good day.
