This is a discussion on What does counterfitted mean? within the online poker forums, in the Learning Poker section; I had two pair and lost. The other players said I was counterfitted. I don't get it. What does that mean?
there for you have to play the board andf their Ace high wins and you are counterfeited!
Good example here. To summarize this, your 77 is the third-highest pair, and doesn't beat the 9988 on the board. So you hold 9988T, and your opponent holds 9988A in this example.
Straights and flushes can be counterfeited too. if you hold A2, and the board comes 345 you hit a pretty big hand. If the next two cards are 67, you now have a 7 high straight, and will be lucky to chop the pot if no one has an 8 or 89. With a flush if you flop JT6 if hearts, and you have 24 hearts, again, its a pretty good flop. If the next two cards are A5 of hearts, your flush is AJT65, same as anyone else that doesn't hold a heart bigger than a 6 in their hand.

Also, if you hold 2 cards that make a straight on the flop (your 5 6 in the hole, board 7, 8, 9) and the turn shows a 6, your hand is counterfeited.
Just means your previously VERY strong hand has become weak, as one of your hole cards (which built your nut hand), is now available as a community card, giving your opponents lots of one opportunities to split the pot, or even kill your hand off with an overcard.
Yup... I hate it when that happens... Played a live tourney d'other day and had 52o in BB and flopped 2 pair... bet hard and got it to heads up but the board paired and pocket 8s kicked my ass. Life is hard. Counterfeiting is the devils work.... if you believe in that sort of nonsense
This happens a lot in situations where you suspect your oppenent has a big pair, you call with say 89 hoping to outflop him. Bingo, hit your 893 flop and you expect to win a big pot and then a 3 hits on the turn and now your hand is worthless...
Counterfeited is also a term in Omaha. It means that the same card in your hand is on the board thereby negating your card. i.e. in O/8 you have A,2,9,J and the board is A, 3, 8, K, Q. One of the cards mirror yours thereby negating you for the low.

Counterfeited is a horrible situation to be in. E.g. 22 against AK and the flop is
4 5 4 6 5. The opponent has the following hand... 4 , 4 , 5 , 5 , A. And you have... 4 , 4 , 5 , 5 , 6. Your 2's are counterfeited by the bigger pair. Another horrible situation to be in is if you are dominated. For example, KA vs KQ. The KQ is dominated by the KA but thats another scenario . Simple term hopefully for you now though! Good Luck.
