Hi Everybody,

I've been playing poker now for more than 15 years. I have studied the game a great deal. Currently, the games I play are most often 6 max SNG. These games really fit my lifestyle. I play turbos, NOT hyper turbos. I would say the average game lasts 25 minutes.

I was recently inspired by a young man on this forum who has meticulously recorded his poker play (in the challenges forum if you are interested). He was kind enough to reply to a message I had sent him about bankroll management and to my surprise he told me that BRM is the only thing he does NOT have a problem with.
Surprising considering that for many of us, it is our biggest issue..

Anyway, my point is that after checking out his posts, I decided that I too would keep a concise record of my play. It didn't take me long to figure out that not only is BRM a problem for me but that Tilt is the biggest contributing factor to my poor bankroll management skills.

As I stated, he inspired me and I started a similar challenge for myself on restarting a bankroll with a zero balance only using freerolls (thanks CC) and 25 cent SNG on Globalpoker. I quickly accumulated a nice profit of $116 in 14 days.
Nice right?
But the downside is that I did not stick to the plan and tilt took over and I overstepped my boundaries and started playing 10NL cash. Cash by the way isn't something that i play that well or often for that matter, so the result is I am sadly back down to approximately $7.

$116 profit staying within the guidelines I had set for myself and a loss of $109 when Tilt and poor brm reared their ugly head.

I started thinking that I should have spent as much time studying tilt control as I did learning the other aspects of the game at a certain point in my development. So, as of today, I am giving myself the gift of constantly learning new ways to study about tilt and how to minimize this inevitable monster.

I hope this post can save a few bankrolls..

I lost my bankroll the same way. It was a smaller one but still, I lost it. I was very tilted but after a few days I'm ready to get back in the game. It's a part of a learning process of the game, I guess or you're naturally calm and you don't have to learn anything. (when it comes to tilt)

Personally, when I'm tilted I force myself to do something else and stop for the day, even if I haven't put in a lot of hours lately.

I jump into CS:GO and deathmatch for a while, usually, that takes the tilt away and when I'm calm it's easier to make the decision to stop for the day. The tricky part is not telling yourself "you're no longer tilted, keep play" xD

Hi Lattidank and powewa,

Just for your information I am studying how not to tilt. Gripsed poker has a great video on you tube. He is an excellent teacher.

Thank U 4 posting

Jared Tendler has 2 great books on not tilting, The Mental Game of Poker Vol 1 -2

In his books he discusses the triggers for tilting and how to recognize them early so you do not end up in tilt mode.

His books also discuss pregame strategies and post game strategies for strengthening our mental capacity so as not to tilt.

Hope this helps
:)

The magic and unexpected rivers on pokerstars destroyed the entire tilt in me.

Getting hit after hit, I used not to worry about it, but just adjusted my game in a more accurate direction. Thank you PokerStars!:D:D

I totally agree with you that tilt mode changes your game dramatically. And sometimes you dont recognize it but you are already on tilt mode. That is why we also need to have discipline, to get a firm control of our emotions so as not to veer away from your set rules of playing the game, and managing your BR.
