So I have always been the type to dig deeper in understanding poker. I feel like it is an ever evolving game. Whether that be through courses like Upswing, or youtube videos, or books. Across the span of 17 years I have used many avenues to learn more about poker. The problem is most of the information given in these outlets, is outdated or not solid advice. I am in search of the best places to find free up to date study material for No-limit Texas hold-em (MTT's, sit and go's, and cash games) If it comes down to I have to pay for something then so be it. However I would really like to avoid that if it isn't something truly worth it. I have had poker coaches, study groups, and seen just about every poker youtube video available, but I want something current that I can spend about 8 hours a day reading through and applying to my game. Thanks in advance

Well this is the forum that will answer all your questions ? There are many topics , you can ask any question you want. , u just have to specify and to put every question u have in its own topic. For example if u have a question about learning poker , you can ask that in learning topic .and I m sure you will get what u need . One advice that I will give you , be patient, poker isn’t casino , if u win , that won t be very fast , u have to learn and wait and the winings will be in long-term .Good luck .

Thanks and I have been contributing a lot with posts on this site. However I am not looking for answers I am looking for study material. I am already a break even/winning player. I just want study material that I can use to keep my game sharp.

This question is too wide and subjective. If you want some recommendations that are "truly worth it" then you'll need to help define exactly what that is! Could you please narrow down the scope of your question a bit?

For example, we know that you are into MTTs, SNGs and Cash. Is there one of the 3 types that you want to focus on playing?

Do you play live or online or both? If both, which one is more important to you?

What do you perceive to be your weaknesses? Do you know what your leaks might be in each MTT, SNG, Cash? Which one do you want to study?

Do you need to study the math? Do you want to study GTO? Do you want to study betting patterns? Do you want to study human behavior?

--Information that you can provide that narrows down what you'd like your study to focus on might help the CardsChat community make a recommendation instead of being crickets and not responding to your post! :icon_stud

So If I had to narrow it down from Cash MTT's or sit and go's I guess I would say MTT's because I feel like this is my weakest area. I play both online and live. I feel like I can make more money live for many reasons. So live is definitely most important to me.

I have recently spoke to some people that I play with live and tried to nail down some leaks that I have and some of the leaks that they told me shocked me, but in a good way. Apparently live I play borderline Loose Passive. My reason as far as I can think is because you don't see as many hands live as you do online so I want to be involved in the majority of the action. Also I believe my main weakness is not using all the knowledge that I have while playing. I don't think long enough during hands to properly put my opponent on a well thought out range, and I don't narrow the possibilities down as well as I should to make the best decision. I go a lot off my gut and feeling.

I don't really need to know any of the theories or strategies because I am WELL versed in all of them, but more I want some solid information that I can spend reading over daily. I already search through the many threads on here if I have a particular question to see if someone as already started a thread and for the most part I find some really good information, but constantly reading through hundreds if not thousands of comments gets old, and I was hoping I could find information in one singular location to save from all the constant digging.

It is great that you feel good about your depth of understanding with theories and strategies - I am constantly in a battle with these to expand my knowledge. From what I have seen, most of the training sites online deal with theory and strategy - then suggest players go out and apply the lessons.

It sounds to me like you could spend some time learning advanced FlopZilla analysis. If you are writing down your hands when you play live you could then go home and perform some real analysis to help you think more deeply about why your actions did/did not work - and perhaps consider ways you could have made more money (or lose less). I think FlopZilla did some videos on youtube and if I'm not mistaken SplitSuit also has some videos. If you aren't yet taking notes live then check out Johnathan Little who has some recommendations/examples about how to take notes.

With regard to not using all your knowledge at the table. You could spend some time developing a "system" where you follow a checklist to ensure that you apply your knowledge during the hand to make the best decision. With a system/checklist in place - you are more likely to think through each hand deliberately.

Of all the above, the most worthwhile is a personal meeting with the coach, if possible, in my opinion the most worthwhile investment of time, money to improve the experience.

I completely agree with you, and I have found some great stuff! Can’t help but think, by making a post, I could possibly skip a lot of the searching and reading that I have been doing. I don’t “ mind” it per say but there is A LOT of non-sense in these comments that I have to work my way through. I was really hoping for a course, similar to upswing that people have used. Or even some tags to “ really good threads on the site”

Appreciate the response, I have the basics down though... Probably going to start going through Phil galfonds stuff, “run it once”. I recently have been going through Upswing.

Have you personally gone through the “study material for a MTT newbie” does it have information helpful and relevant to someone that has been studying this game for 10+ years or is it just basic fundamentals? If so I’m looking for a little more advanced material...

I really agree with this as well. For the longest time I had a group of circuit pros and a few others with 2millon plus live earnings as people I could talk too every day and where like personal coaches, but these days they are so busy. Might have to get another coach, if the stuff I’m working with in this group right now doesn’t work. It’s kind of like playing golf and Having the shanks lol

There is a good bit of material on the Raise Your Edge youtube channel.

But I tend to think that after you have much of the basics down, most of your improvement is going to come from playing with software and looking at a lot of specific spots over and over until they become second nature. A lot of tournament play is going to come down to ICM and push/fold ranges, which is heavily math based. Drilling these spots is going to pay off much more than reading people explain concepts you are already familiar with.

the winning strategy

the man wants to pay the money to get the skills to win the game...
here is the plan... send me your money, and i will pray to the gods that you are given the insights into how to be a winner, and that winning will be a habit for your poker playing...
every table, and game, and site is different, and it is flexibility and understanding that are the keys to winning.
even in a game as ritualistically simple as blackjack, or roulette... there are risks...stacked against you... now to poker, where each player on the table is trying to outwit you...each using their own unique blend of culture and ritual...
take for example a chinese player who loves 8 and 10... or a white guy who will play 69 every time...
so the game is...and cannot be a programmed formula:elefant::motz:

hiya MemphisGrind. It occurred to me that I should mention catching some Lex Veldhuis on Twitch. He plays a ton of MTT and often will talk strategy and do quick hand reviews to reveal what he was thinking. Might be worth investing a few hours...

Well it sounds to me like reading another book might not help.Once you understand all basic and advanced concepts you need to learn to counter these great strategys and learn to identify whos who. Practicing how to abuse a great player is the next step. If Everbodys reading the same books how are you gonna be better than anyone? gl on the tables and watch yourself as much as you watch your opponents so you can understand how they view you.

Completely agree with this.. I think it’s coming down to constantly reviewing hands and having people watch my play and commenting. Which is what I’m starting to do
