Hello Cards Chat Grinders,

Can a successful cash game player explain the squeeze play to me. Say we have A4 suited on the button and we wanted to squeeze. Can you explain what your mindset would be going into this play? Also are you only squeezing with position? Thank you.

Thank U 4 Posting.

The original definition of a squeeze play was this.

UTG raises with wider range MP calls with narrower range we 3 bet large with KQ trying to get UTG to fold some part of their range that is ahead of us. We squeeze the UTG raiser between us and the MP caller who has a tighter range than UTG's. We also pressure MP as they have capped their range.

I have seen players today use it to describe a 3 bet bluff in position.
A9-A6 off suit are good 3 bet bluff hands as we have the A blocker and can fold to 4 bets easily.
Suited Aces can be used as well but we may want to over call creating a large pot that we may over flush someone on.

Hope this helps

I think 3bet with A4s and A5s are quite common from LP vs EP-MP
or SB vs EP-LP. The reason is that it has A blocker so less likely villain has got Ax hands and generally perform well against villain calling ranges e.g A4 has 30% equity vs JJ-99 , also got high nut potential with flush and wheel draws.
