Serious blind spot

Here's my poker nemesis. I can easily notice when a broadway might be looming but if it's low or middling broken straight cards on the flop, I'm helpless. I've lost tons of money due to this malady. My question is, am I just an odd duck or is it more of a common hang up for a large number of players?

When you look at how many people are playing and how they always hope and wait for the river to finish their hand, I think that there are quite a few people who know this problem. And I confess when I started playing poker that I had this problem very often. But now that has been minimized for me and I usually fold then.

With draw-hands, you need to think ahead of time, and not give up the initiative.
