I've noticed this a few times recently, so I thought I'd flag it to beginning players.
If you're in a pot and all the other players are sitting out, don't check. Raise. You'll automatically win as long as one of players isn't all-in.
(Now this only generally happens if you limp and the big blind is sitting out. You probably shouldn't be limping in in the first place. But if you do, please be situationally aware enough to raise the flop to take down the pot.)
