Was stopped mid game last week, when someone complimented my game and asked if I had a coach. I responded no and for the last week I have been thinking how much better if I had someone who played better then me, give me some advice. So with all said, anyone know where someone would go and seek a poker coach?

You either pay for one out of pocket or you get coaching in a "coaching for profit" deal. Either option is decent, but only really worth it for high stakes or high volume or both players. The free to almost free resources and software available are more than enough for most players.

Currently, the Internet has a lot of educational material and specialized sites that have all the necessary information to learn the game. One of the best sites in my opinion is the CardsChat community. Here is everything you need for both beginners and experienced players. In particular, pay attention to our free course.

Yes, it would be very nice to get a personal trainer who would share experience with you and give you practical skills. Only, of course, all this will not be free at all. Yes, and in my city there are simply none!

How do you currently study the game? If we know this perhaps we can suggest a path.

There are a lot of coaches out on the Internet, but of course they all charge for their services, what you really need to analyze is, are the charges reasonable to the level you are playing? there is no use paying for a coach if you are playing low stakes, same as buying HUD software is not profitable if you plan to play for low stakes.
Even top players like Phil Helmuth has a coach, and I know that a lot of Pro's that stream their live games, do take time out for coaching sessions and study, but Phil's coach cannot teach the Poker Brat anything about Poker, but he does help him to control that explosive temper of his that he is famous for.
There are a lot of professional players on Twitch, and watching them has helped me a lot when it comes to game play, you can see their hole cards and watch the way they play certain hands, in certain situations, and a lot still use coaches, but of course some of the games they play are over $100 buy-in games.
It really boils down to what do you want from On-line Poker? If your intention is to make a living as a professional Poker player, then I wish you luck and hope it works out for you, For me Poker is a hobby I enjoy, and I play seriously, but for low stakes, because my only drive is to win enough to buy-into my next session.
I have been playing for over 20 years and never once wanted to play On-line for massive buy-ins, mainly because it takes away the fun and pleasure I get from the game, I don't care if I lose, because I am in control of my game and what I am willing to lose, So coaching at my age would not be profitable in the long term, (I don't think I have a long term left at 66).
Watching the Pro's on "Twitch" and "Youtube" is all the coaching I need, and they do help me understand the finer points of my game play.

When the fun Stops, STOP!

Getting a poker coach is a very smart idea. The question is would it be worth it to get one. If your just going to stay in low stakes the value of a coach is probably not worth it. If you play on playing 20 or 30 $50.00 buy ins a week or playing bigger events live it would be worth it. I do know of few coaches out there. One will charge a min fee and a % of your winning. Another if he is still doing it charged about $500.00 per hour. One good pro was charging 2K per hour. No I dont use any of the coaches.

What I would suggest is this. Look for players you respect. Follow them and really make sure there good and then reach out to them. You could start a group of like minded players and study the game together. It does not need to be big but you might learn a ton this way. Its how I got started 15 years ago and I miss those days.

I've only started playing tournaments after joining this forum. (3 months). Since then i have placed in the money on 70% of my entries and made the final table 3 times. only recently have I tried real money tournaments (like 2 days ago), and on my second attempt at a $3.30 (WHICH I see are the most popular at staking), I took first place for $117.00. I really want to be a pro at poker and stop my back aching job as a Rod Buster. I completed the $100 to $10 000 challenge last year, currently working on the Chris Ferguson $0-$10 000 challenge. I am currently learning bankroll management, seeing how i would always cash out my winnings and spend it. Only started playing online since Covid and always played in the casino's. ....i miss the casino's.....

Probably be better off to watch a good micro stakes player playing online vs. a typical Twitch stream... because the info. would be much more applicable.

fwiw, 2nd does not equal 1st ;)
