Last night in a tournament on ACR I held pocket jacks in the small blind about 20 places from the bubble. Folds all around until the button who raised the min and I subsequently 3-bet and he reraised all in. I called and my jacks were against A-Q with both my suits covered. A queen hit on the flop and I was eliminated. This reminded me of a conversation I had recently with a player at the Casino cash table and she said jacks are her least favorite hand. I tend to agree any advice of how to play them?

Well what did you think he had when you called his reraise? You should have known you were in a flipping situation and decided what to do next based on your read of the player since you can't really play the hand the same way every single time.

I dont hate the way you played it, you were in the small blind and button steals are not that uncommon so your "usually" with the best of it with pocket jacks in the situation that you describe. He could easily have had a smaller pocket pair and hoped u had AK or AQ.

Bottom line is it is a good spot to get it in. The thing is that it would be an easier fold if you were very very deep(more than 30 bb).

Also villains table image is important here. All in all you cant win tounries if you dont win fliips. And unfortunately flips are an inevitable part of tournaments so all i can say here is , UNLCKY BRO. If he hadnt hit the Q,i doubt this thread would even exist. So in my opinion if you were relatively short then the play was good .

2 options:

You could have called his min-raise and waited to see the flop, then checked after the Q came up. This would have minimized your risk and given you a good reason to get out of the hand.

Or, you could have shoved to his min-raise and put him on the spot. Not sure this would have altered the outcome of the hand, but you might have gotten a fold out of him in that spot. Would like to know what the stack sizes were.

It is good cal for me. I would fold there just if he is very tight at table.

i think its a normal thing you call with a pair of jacks... its just bad luck ... with a pair of queens you could hace lost the same way against an KA .. as i said.. its just bad luck... hope some day you can get a poker of jacks with a big pot! ;)

I would choose to rather shove it.

Sometimes, you have to accept flips. Either I win or he wins.

Seems there is no consensus on how to play. How high should jacks be valued preflop? They are a top 10 hand but where?
1. AA
2. KK
3. AK
4. QQ
5. AQ
6. KQ
7. JJ
Just my personal list not sure if those are truest odds.

You took a risk and it didn't pay out, you could have called and see if there was a A, K, Q at the flop, and then go all in.. but the way you played it was fine.

Then well played, the hand played itself out. You lost the flip. Thats that.

How many BB did you have?? How many chips did your opponent have?
If his shove was bigger than your stack, and it happened as a 4-bet, near ITM, I would probably fold.
To play with jacks, you have to be in a good position, and be ready to fold to players with higher stacks, especially in this level of the tournament.

See above in the thread I had about 15 BB he had 20.
