Play shorthanded or seek another table ?

When I play 2NL at 888, I try to choose table with 5 players, but I rarely can play full table for long.
When there are only 4 of us at table I usually quit and go search for another table.
I feel uncomfortable shorthanded. Everything is happening too fast and game is too intense.
Is there some skill set what should help playing shorthanded or I just need to be able to play faster (more on autopilot) ?

It makes sense, since tables with 4 players or less tend to be very loose. You will need to loosen up quite a bit, or the blinds will start to eat you. This also increases the probability of making a mistake, by playing too loose, so there will be lots of action. This can be a bit overwhelming. I don't think you're making a bad decision by moving to another table once other players start to leave the table. The exception is of course when you're up against total fish.
