Hey All,

Been getting into online poker a lot more after moving further away from AC and several other casinos. The one thing I am having a brutal time adjusting to is reading bluffers/hand strength. In live play, it is very easy to tell when someone is bluffing, especially pre-flop position bluffs, based on body language and bet speed. Being that there is no body language, Besides trends and learning players over playing with them, what types of tells do you all pick up on or what type of patterns when it comes to trying to catch a snake in the grass online?

Familiarize yourself with the controls/buttons for betting and keep in mind what it takes for the player to post a bet.
Commonly in micro and small stakes, a player can be in several tables, so they'll want to click a button a move on.

Example: Bets online usually have dedicated buttons to quickly post a Pot-sized bet, 2x Pot-size, even 3x Pot-size; as well as a meter that you can scroll for an alternative amount.
A lot of online software/Apps have the ability to automatically check/fold/call right away when it's your turn.

So if villian almost instantly calls an amount. They either had that choice already set before you make a decision or was already hovering the CALL button ready to click, either way, that's valuable info for you.

Another way is just how much the player bets, I remember a few who would bet amounts based on the pot (pot, 2x, or 3x) and they usually hit something... but whenever they bet an "odd" amount, as if they just scrolled the meter and let go, turns out they were bluffing, because they missed and just quickly put up an big number to try to steal the pot.

For me, any instant betting or checking is an alert to pay attention to that player, and then basically what the player had to press to bet that amount.

honestly now I've been playing with the same players for so many hundreds of thousands of hands my HUD does all the work. There is still timing tells that I use but can be unreliable when villain is multi tabling and just can't get to his screen quick enough. bet sizing is another good thing to look at... but when you are playing against balanced players this can be an unreliable tell as well. All in all it comes down to knowing your player.

There are some games where u will find the same players, any time u play . So I suggest you to note them ( you make notes about a player, to mémorise how they act , And u will recognize them when u face them )

You have to have a good range and bet setting, learn to give up in the first aggressiveness to take notes.

I study the overly aggressive ones first. They are normally the easiest to tell if they are bluffing. High bets on low pots, overly aggressive raising. As some mentioned above, timing.
