Ok so Im playing a sng on bodog, I folded but the 2 other players are going at it.

Now hand comes 3 diamonds on the flop and one of them being an ace of diamonds, the 2 are betting hard going at it, well 2 more diamonds come out to make an ace high flush on the board, the other guy bets 210 and makes the other player fold, I said what the hell it was a split pot, I would not have folded that.

Now here is the interesting part, after being called an idiot by 3 players on table, the argument is the other guy had a king of diamonds so he would have won the pot, I said no way.

So my question is, am I right? Last time I checked you are allowed to use the best 5 cards on the board or in your hand to make the damm best hand, maybe Im wrong but it was an ace high flush on the board, only way is if his king of diamonds was the 6th card, Im getting pissed now, who is right, its a damm ace high flush on the board the king or queen or jack is elevant at this point correct, cause you could just play the board and you still have a damm ace high flush, only way I see not a split pot is if he had a full house or 4 of a kind. Who is right here?

If both players have an ace high flush the second High card counts (kinda like a kicker).

AK652 Flush beats AQ562 flush.

Can't answer just like everyone else now can I? :D

Everyone who replied is of course right but just to make it crystal clear.

Its the 5 best cards that make the hand.

Board is: :ad4::kd4::9d4::3d4::2d4: - You have :jc4::jh4: so you use the board - I have :2c4::4d4:

My :ad4::kd4::9d4::4d4::3d4: beats you.

gl to you.:)

yeah well I would agree with that if you could use 6 cards?? then the king would be kicker, look lets make this drunk and dumb, the best 5 cards wins, if there on the board where the hell does the king come into play, now if it was the king on the board and he had the ace, well then I would shut up. I still think im right, but just to make sure Im calling the pro.

well hey thats what makes this room good, I think im right but I will wait till I get that phone call from the pro and see what he says, if Im wrong im wrong, I think im right, you could have king queen of diamonds, but bottom line is Im using 5 cards to beat you, its an ace high flush, where the hell does the king come into play, except for looking like a good card.

this happened to me about a month ago in one of my home games. had pocket K's and floped another when the flop came up all hearts. turn, heart, river heart. i didn't have have a heart but my opponent did, i bet at the river to try to bluff him out of in, way over bet the pot with 5000 grand, there was a huge amount in already. he had me beat and he let it go because he only had five of hearts. i took it down and showed my bluff. that put him on tilt and i took him out about 5 hands later. good times, good timess.

Dude. Not to be rude, but: YOU ARE TOTALLY, COMPLETELY, AND IN ALL OTHER WAYS WRONG. Here, let me see if I can help out. :/

You say the board was all diamonds. We know that the Ace was on the board, and one of the guys was holding the King of diamonds. I don't know what all the board cards were, so I'll improvise. Let's say the board was:
A♦J♦9♦5♦4♦

Anyone in the hand who does not have any diamonds, or any diamonds higher than a Jack would use the board to make their hand (A♦J♦9♦5♦4). But the object is to make the best possible 5 card hand whether using the board OR your own hole cards. So, if that guy had the K♦ his hand would NOT be A♦J♦9♦5♦4♦, it would be [ad][kd][jd][9d][5d], thus making a higher flush then the one on the board.

Trust me. You are wrong. You are so wrong it hurts that you still think you're right. You're not right. But it's OK, no one can be right all the time...;)

Umm Madness, it's the best 5 card hand using all seven cards in play, the 5 board cards plus the 2 in your hand. Therefore, the ace-king high flush beats the board flush.

There have been some good explaination of this already. Seroiusly, try not to take offense, but if you are going to be playing cards for money you need to know the basic rules.

Let's see if I can explain it.

Yes - it's the best 5 cards you can make. The reason the A high flush always wins is because if you have an A in your hole, then noone else can.

But if both players are 'sharing' the Ace, then it goes to the next card. The only situation where a flush can "tie" (same suit) is if the high card is on the board. After that, it comes down to the highest non-shared card (hole card). If all 5 cards on the board make the flush - the higher hole card can still take down the pot. If there is no other flush or the hole cards are lower than the board - then the pot is split.

Hope that helps....

For an unrelated question - I recently started playing 7 card stud. Say two players have A high flushes in diff suits. Same rules? Best flush after tie cards? I'd assume so...

Ya, your right...now tell me where you play and at what level so we could test your theory a few times.
seriously though, the best 5 cards win the pot, you only have 2 hole cards and use those cards, 1 or both.
If the board flushes and your holding the K with an ace high flush on board then you use your king(being the second highest card to complete the flush) so therefore you win and its not split and if you really feel your right then my first offer still stands.(see bold)

I have come across a situation similar to this one, your hole cards do make a difference to the overall strength of your hands, just like 2 ace pairs facing each other, one has a king kicker the other one has a queen, if you were right, then its both ace pairs and the pot should be split right?! So no my friend, unless the poker site screwed me (I was on the losing end) you are very wrong about the rule.
