Until it's okay to think so, the problem is if you play with a lot of limp players, it pays to see flop, loose players, that have vision I got to go away too. If you are always a Rock player, go only in the hands of premiuns, the blins will get you ... What will make you gain money, and study your adversary, make him drop his hands. Create a goal, goals, and be patient, long-term will result.

I like getting in there with 7/8 ... love watching them fall when I hit on the sly.

And seriously you had to create new topic only to tell us that? ;) This is not even true imho. While this may be partially true for some loose / passive / slow tournaments, you cannot be profitable in most of the tournaments by just waiting for premium hands. On medium / higher stakes good players will quickly notice that you play very tight and you won't get too much action.

There is a stat called m-ratio, which represents number of rounds that you can play passively. You can find article about m-ration here. The style of play you are suggesting will end up in having small m-ratio in many of the tournaments, especially turbo and hypers.

That article about m-ration was super helpful. I knew a bit about it prior to reading this post... but this post helped me to get a firm understanding of the concept. Thank you!

Right, but you don't have to wait too much or blind will eat you. You need to play careful and only when you have something really good. Nothing of raise preflop or following all in preflop. Good luck to all.

Even waiting for the monster hands is not a guaranteed win, AA only wins about 80% of the time.

Work on your game and change it up and bit every now and again, it will help you become more profitable in them. People will work you out and you will not get any action when you raise, until the one time that you get shoved on and are behind.

I guess your tactics are OK if you are just looking to min cash but you can't expect to get deep into any tournaments playing that way.

Playing only AA..KK etc doesnt mean that you wil win tournament. Important it to play them correctly and I think even more important is to know your opponents so you could win whatever hand you have... I mean push when it's profitable and fold when it's needed.

There's a slight difference between playing slowly and playing deliberately.
You have to mix up the hands you play, otherwise the savvy players will sus you out in no time and the pots you do win will be small.

It's easy to say ... how difficult it is to expect only premium hands

I agree with having patience but i don't think the waiting for premium hands is the way to win tournaments. At times waiting for premium hands is the reason why your money will go away before you know it.

I get the idea behind this advice, and I think you are partially right. Of course, in early stages of MTTs you want to play tight. However, if you keep playing all game like this it will get you at best until min cash, certainly not to the FT. Poker is about bluffing, and taking advantage of your position/mistakes of others. It is not a lottery, nor a contest 'who will get most monster hands wins'. You can't just wait for the nuts to make sure you will win.

It's a great strategy if you are lucky enough to get more than your fair share of premium hands and they hold up, but if you go card dead for hours you will be blinded away unless you add some moves to keep alive.

Need to find the fine line between patience and being aggressive. Need to play strong hands but find those times to win chips that should have gone to someone else.

Incredible! here is a strategy! :)
ftn129 And if in the first 50 hands, nothing better than a J8 offsuit was not?))))))) how to be? just be out?

ftn129 learn poker in General, all that is :)) Sometimes it is better to play 34, 78, A2, and catch the flash on the flop, a straight draw, flush draw and plenty of things still to shock opponents at the end :) good luck :)
