I sometimes play tournaments-cash tables with play money and I think I have improved because I have already reached a place paid in 6 tournaments and my real money bankroll is 9.35 usd, play money hands really work or give you experience

Some people say you will develop bad habits when there's no real money at risk.

But I say using the play chips is a brilliant move. No, you won't be playing against the toughest competition in the world, however, since it doesn't cost you anything, you can experiment with your strategies and try different things out. And just by playing a million hands, you will learn the game to a very deep level.

I highly recommend play chips, I spend much of my poker time on the play chip side of poker stars (since it's the only part of Poker Stars we Americans are allowed to use). All of my real-life friends think it's a waste of time, so we have a big difference of opinion on it. But I don't care what they think or what they say. I call them stupid for having that attitude!!! Best wishes.

I truly think that playing with play money helps improving your poker skills. You can try and learn new or other things without risking money, e.g. playing different styles, games or calculating pot odds. By playing play money tournaments you will see if you a tournament or cash game type and other things.

It can help you learn experience, training tactics or thing you think will work.
But very important: not to lose focus, discipline... cause if you think "oh wth, it's play money, let's go all in...", that's not good for your game style

Unfortunately, it is no longer possible for people from germany to play with play money on pokerstars, but I used to only play with play money for a few years. You probably can't compare it to the challenge you have in a real money tournament, but I think it's definitely enough for learning poker.

I think poker is a game that can only be played for real money. Given the number of freerolls currently available, each player can play poker for money without risking their own money.

Go with the play chips and take the games seriously. Beginners are still doing the same mistakes they were doing 10-15 years ago. Different IDs but the same mistakes.

And I heard the one about "you can't learn anything from the playchip tables" like 10-15 years ago and that was nonsense then as it is today.

These are the same folks that don't understand the fundamentals of these games and probably advocate the latest "trend" like Kill Phil or this "Modern Theory" of poker but don't know starting hands and wonder why JJ or QQ are hard to play with a board of 2 overs or a wet flop, lol.

Go with the playchip tables, get some experience that won't cost you anything besides time. Study the games and the hands and take the games seriously.

I can almost guarantee you that low stakes players especially in the poker variations like omaha, stud, omah8 etc think they have a clue to what they're doing but are making the same silly mistakes that play chippers make but think since they're playing for a few pennies or a few bucks think the games magically become something different, lol. Silly.

Work on your game at the play chip tables while studying.

Play money or candy wrappers are mostly played by beginners or not adequate people, so there is no point in wasting your time playing at these tables, it's better to play tournaments at a minimum rate, there will be experience and sense

hello

I don't think it's useful to learn to play, I don't see the point of playing fictitious money! for beginners it can help but not for those of us who are regulars!

Depends on what level you are playing. Towards the end you actually have players as apposed the start when it is just all in or call anything. What can be learned from that.

From the point of view of developing your level of play, it probably makes no sense to play for play chips. Opponents often play frivolously.

This is certainly beneficial to the player. Play money gives you the freedom to err without weight in your conscience. I think it's essential for an inexperienced player to go through this stage in his career.

If you want to start playing on a new poker site I think it is a good idea to play with play money to start so you get a feel for the software and get everything set up the way you want

I think playing with play money is very different from playing with real money, I don't think playing play money improves your game and can even get in your way when playing real money.

Can be useful

Play money chips can help you learn on the cheap. An MTT for free chips can help you, as far as discipline goes. If you play seriously, trying new strategies, how different combinations work, it can be beneficial, if you "bank" the knowledge, for use on real money poker.

I rather play freerolls than play money, but you can still learn from both.

It is interesting to play for large amounts, then adrenaline and high heat, freerolls are a game without all this.

In my opinion you can't learn too much by playing play-money at the lowest levels. But in the "Highstake-Play-Money-Games" you will find lots of "regulars" who play a solid game or at least care if they succeed. But there is one big difference compared to real-money: You don't have the fear of losing money or the fear not to cash in a tourney in play-money-games. As a result, bluffing and an aggressive gamestyle for example on the bubble will work much better in real-money-games.

Playing for game dollars can only help you as a novice player. The fact is that the tactics of the game with cash and conditional money are completely different. You can play great with play money and then play really bad with cash. This happens in most cases.

I used to play a lot of fake money games, but I made it a point to ALWAYS play as if it was real money. I know that is hard/almost impossible but I would try very hard. I no longer play fake money games though ay this point.
