My buddy and I are trying to figure out who takes the pot on this one. Here's what we're holding:

Me: King, 9
Buddy: 10, 8

Whats on the table: 5, 10, 5, 5, 5

Now my buddy says its a split pot because there is a "four of a kind" on the table, and we both use that as our winning hand.

I say I take the pot because, yes, there is a "four of a kind" on the table, but I am also holding a King which is higher than the 10 he's holding. Its the best 5 cards right?

Another onlooker says that my buddy should take the pot because while there is a "four of a kind" on the table, my buddy is also holding a 10 in his hand. Somehow he thinks that beats me because there is a 10 on the table as well.

So who wins? Our cards and chips are still on the table until we get this resolved, haha. Thanks in advance for helping out some newbies!

Crippler is right. You have 4 of a kind with a K kicker and he has 4 of a kind with a 10 kicker. Only hand that beats you on that board is one containing an Ace.

You: K5555
Him: T5555

You win with the better kicker. Sure there's a T on the board, so he has a full house (TT555), but quads outrank that, so it's irrelevant.

Your buddy is quite unlucky that that 5 fell on the river though. :)

I would be interested in knowing how the betting went on that hand. I believe you probably should have gotten away from that hand sometime before the river depending on how he bet it.

Thanx guys... now I can go collect. The way the betting went was once the flop came down, I was bluffing that I had the third 5 and bet big since I was in the position to do a little chip bullying... my friend sensed my bluff and and went all in since he had the 10... after commiting so much I had to call, if I loss I still would of had a sizeable chip lead on him, so I said F it, Im going for it. We turned over the cards and he was ecstatic with joy. His two-pair beats my king-high. Then fourth street came and it was another 5. Full House for him. He thought it was over for me. Than came the final 5 on the river and I jumped up out my chair and let out a huge "YEEEEEAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!" I could tell his heart sank soon as that 5 hit, but then he reached into the pot and said "Damn, split pot." I was like "What the hell you talking about??? I got a King!!!" Thats when the disagreements began, thus prompting me to come here and ask the question. I think all along he knew I won, but since it was a heart breaking loss, I think he's trying to pull one over on the rookie. Thanx alot though guys!!! Just got me 150 bucks!!!

SOmething like that happened at a tournament I was at the other night. Player 1 went all in and Player 2 called.

Player 1: 5, 9
Player 2: J, 6

The board had 5, 4, 4, 4, with a river card left to go. Player 1 clearly had this one in the bank. Or so it seemed. The river was another 4. Player2 won because he had a higher kicker. Unbelievable!:stoned:

Bad call. You called his all-in on a board of 5-5-T when you held K-9? What kind of hand were you drawing to? Was there a flush possibility for you? You sucked-out that pot in the worst kind of way. Hang around here a while and we'll get you straightened right out. Welcome to Cardschat.

PS- If I were you, I would wait a couple of days before I went to collect the 150 bucks. He's probably still pissed, lol.

Well see, all night pairs were coming down on the flop. He kept bluffing that he had the third card. Everytime he bluffed he got me to fold. He showed me his cards everytime. He never had anything. Then, this time I decided to bluff like I had the third card trying to play his game. In actuality, he did a good job of setting me up. Throughout the whole game he showed me that he never had the third card to make a "3 of a kind," so this time he sensed that i bluffed, trying to use his tactic, and he called me on it. It was just luck on my part that I won that pot.

That was quite an interesting set of cards...4 5's on the board...but ya you were right on who wins if your kicker is higher than you would take it...

Still seems like a terrible call, however, I wasn't there. Like I said, stick around and check out the posts by some of the forum faithful and you'll be in top form in no time. There is a wealth of combined knowledge here in both live play and online and the best part is its free!

If you ever need help or have a question, post it up and like this one, you'll get good solid answers and advice. Unlike most forums on the net, there is a minimal amount of conflict and flaming here, so enjoy.

well if you thought it was a split pot than you were wrong because the ten gets out kicked by the king!

Make the best five card hand. Not six, therefore the ten on the board would not even come into play. Take the 4 fives, throw out the ten on the board, then keep the best card in your hand. Obviously the king would be the high kicker.

I lost a hand somewhat the same way at the casino here. I had pocket Q's and on the flop cam Q 10 10. I was last to bet and there was only 1 person betting and I called him which put me almost all in. He had 10 J. Turn was a low card and the river he hooked the 4th 10. Needlest to say my exit out of the tourney was pretty quick.
