Satellite poker is a type of tournament where the prize is a seat in a larger tournament, rather than cash. It can be a great way to qualify for a big event without having to invest a large amount of money. However, satellite poker can also be quite different from regular tournament play, so it's important to have a solid strategy in place.

First, it's important to understand the structure of the satellite. Some satellites have a winner-takes-all format, where the top finisher gets a seat in the main event. Others have multiple seats awarded, and the payouts are based on the number of players who finish in the money. Knowing the structure of the satellite can help you make better decisions about how to play.

One key strategy for satellite poker is to play tight early on. Since the prize is a seat in a larger tournament, it's more important to survive and make it to the money than to build a big stack early on. As the tournament progresses, and the blinds and antes increase, you can start to open up your game and play more aggressively.

Another important strategy is to be aware of your equity in the tournament. This means understanding how much your current stack is worth compared to the size of the blinds, antes, and the number of players remaining. If you have a small stack and the blinds are high, you may need to make a move and try to double up. But if you have a larger stack and the blinds are low, you may be able to wait for better opportunities.

Finally, it's important to be aware of the other players at your table. Watch their tendencies and try to identify any weaknesses that you can exploit. If you notice that a player is playing too tight, you may be able to steal their blinds or put pressure on them in a pot. If you notice that a player is playing too loose, you may be able to trap them and take a big pot.

In summary, satellite poker can be a great way to qualify for a big tournament without having to invest a large amount of money. To be successful, it's important to have a solid strategy in place, play tight early on, be aware of your equity in the tournament, and be aware of the other players at your table. With these tips in mind, you'll be well on your way to winning a seat in the main event.

Satellite poker is easy to get into, and if you win, you can have big hopes.
I participate well.

Play solid, you don't need win a big pot and calculate if you need to fight more or just try to keep your stack safe when the bubble period is coming. I saw many bad players try to fight even when their stack is big enough to survive and get the ticket.

Satellites would be my favorite tournaments after regular events because the mission is simple, your only goal is to finish and not to win

Can anyone give me advice on satellite poker
Studying the structure of a tournament is important. Figure out the exact number of chips you need to win the tournament then make it your goal to reach that number. but do this only while playing hands your willing to commit your whole stack if it came down to it. Play the doubles game rather then just trying to steal blinds. bluff when you have to...but realise bluffing will cause you to lose more in the long run so if you want to be a good player your going to have to eliminate bad habits... You will lose just as much bluffing as you will gain in the long run.

If you are interesed in studying this game format you should get a copy of Dara O'kearney - poker sattelite strategy, its a very good book and it will help you.

Some tips:

- play tight in the early game and pick your stops wisely to shove in the late game as you approche the paid places
- learn to calculate how many chips you need to have in order to get ITM
- stall - always take your time and use your timebank if necessary to avoid the level up falling on you first
