One of the biggest problems in my poker life is that I don't have a lot of serious poker player friends.

Now my friend said he would like to start to play poker after he saw part of my results, and he wants me to teach him. I told him so let's start then. But the problem is that he is a master procrastinator. He will start every project someday, or tomorrow (means never).

I have a marketing/selling background. So I know a little bit how to sell products (or idea of start poker business). He is my potential "prospect" who just procrastinate with his "buying decision". There is a marketing term how to get a potential customer to take an action "sense of urgency" or "call to action" (as the offer expires in 3 hours or only 100 first customers will get a free bucket)

So, my question is, how I could motivate my friend to start to play poker and create that "a sense of urgency" to do that TODAY?
Do you have any success story how you tempted your procrastinator friend to start a poker career? Let's share ideas! :)

Poker as a hobby — quite good option, by means of this game it is possible to spend cheerfully time in the company of friends or to kill several leisure hours alone, playing online. In recent years poker tourism when participation in a tournament is combined with visit of some exotic places and rest becomes fashionable.

Poker is not only a game, but also an addiction. A person must have an interest and desire to learn. it's good when there are friends in the game. but in the game all the players and rivals. I would not call a friend to gamble. Sorry if I did not give advice.:)

Hi.
Usually, the best motivation for people is the financial rewards they can receive. Try to win, for example, $ 10,000 and then I am convinced that your friend will also be interested in poker.
Good luck.

I seriously doubt any marketing/promotionnal/kickasssalesman trickshot will work in this case.. I mean, you did your part.. you showed the game, ways, results, you even accepted to teach him.. you can't do everything for him.. will you go play the games for him??:D:D

I think the only thing you can do for now is to continue to do your things, answer his questions when needed and when he'll be really ready to gamble he'll know which door to knock at!!

Same for me and my friends. I give them hints where to play quite well, or were to get free tickets etc. but they apparently have to less spare time, too much money, too less money or are just too lazy to get some accounts... ;-)

Therefore I would recommed to you and to me: Visit some real tournaments or a Poker club in order to find some mates for playing and discussing Poker.

All the best

Now there are many Sunday Million freerolls, I think that this is a good motivation to take part in a big tournament absolutely free !!! You can also register your friend in the club. perhaps he will like it here !!!

Play as a hobby, call him to see a big event finals .. It would also be nice to propose a challenge for both .. to get on a bankroll until a date ... something like that can be something healthy for friendship and for him Seriously take the poke.

Poker? No friendship, no fairness, no solidarity. The colder the better. Me, myself and I are the toughest opponents.

Lol so years ago a friend was getting married, his entire groomsman group were all pretty heavy riverboat poker players. He didn't play at all but we all had tried to get him interested.

We finally as part of the bachelor had two call girl strippers come over and play strip poker. He got interested real quick when he was down to his underwear and some chick had his pants tied to her head! Try that

If poker is not interesting or motivating for the person there is no sense to push them to start playing. Everything that you do without emotion and will to improve will not give you the results wanted. The approach of your friend tells me that he do not want to play and says that he will just to get you off his head. Much better idea is to gather your friends, buy some beer and snacks and convince them to play one game just for the fun. I am sure that at least some of them will like it and play in future home games with you.

So the old saying goes, "You can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink" Youve offered what you can to help this friend, when or if the time is right just be ready to show him/her the ropes. Offer to take him to a live poker session and sit next to you. I know the first time I showed up to a casino for poker I was by myself and it was very intimidating. In the meantime as suggested above meet some people in the forum to share your mutual enjoyment with poker. Best of luck...

There are a lot of offers that give free bankroll to start with. maybe tell him he'll get something free to start learning. It helps if both of you can play at the similar time. Unfortunately when someone doesn't want to play poker, you can't really force them. maybe he's hiding the fact that he doesn't want to play. I myself am a procrastinator and i use that to hide the fact i don't want to do something rather than tell the person you don't want to do it. Yes it doesn't make sense but that's how we work.

My friend now also plays poker after seeing that I win sometimes in low-cost tournaments or cash games, the first time he saw me win $ 400 and he also wanted to play, I showed him where you can learn the rules and learn and now he too he plays but most of the time he plays freerolls in order to raise a bankroll for himself for further games!

My friends don't play poker either, and I don't see the point of imposing my opinion on them, they need to love poker, and it's not interesting to them, it's their opinion, and I respect it.

It's the "horse to water" scenario w/friends and poker. I've got a few to play and one very enthusiastic nephew who would come over and watch me grind for a while. The more interesting challenge was to get him to understand and play PLO and PLO-8. But I digress.

The pleasure of the game is essential, both for the general happiness of the player, and for its profitability. The player who loves poker will be more motivated than the jaded bored. Have a coach in poker may be an additional source of motivation because the apprentice is looking for recognition and congratulations. For me, poker is a real sport that requires sacrifices and serious training. It's really hard to become a regular player and make your game time profitable. players who succeed are not numerous.

There is only one way to encourage a friend to play poker, it is to tell that you work for yourself, you can work whenever you want and where you want, and most importantly show him the money earned by poker.
