This is a discussion on Great at HU, average at full table :-( within the online poker forums, in the Learning Poker section; What does it say about me that I'm cashing 7.5 out of 10 Head's Up, but only 1.5 out of 10 8 or 10 handed?
re: Poker & Great at HU, average at full table :-(
Same here. Everyone has his specialty. Others specialize in cash games, others in tournaments, others in heads up. But I really think Heads Up you can still win if you just play bad. You can win by shoving with just pocket threes. In a tournament you may do that trick once and double your stack, but in the next same shove you will be out.
I would actually suggest you trying to go for full-ring games to train discipline and play from position more. Then, once you are a solid winning player at a given stake of FR tables, go to 6-max and expand your range. Repeat, and then go to HU. I feel that going from more players per table to only 2 provides a better understanding at certain aspects of the game.
Though, if you are a winning player at HU, keep playing that. All I am advising on is to expand your understanding and ability. Good luck!
