Hey guys.

Having some issues with tilt, and bankroll management.

I'm certain a lot of people have been here before: I just demolished my roll and had to reload after making some really irresponsible decisions...

Also, I've been getting tilted really easily by things that I can't control e.g. getting sucked out on, having players limp re-reaise all-in, or not getting bluffs through.

I know all the adages, and know proper bankroll management, but when I get all fired up, it gets harder to maintain those disciplines.

I was wondering if anyone had some advice on in general how to sort of gauge yourself, and keep a cool head while playing, so I won't make more unprofitable decisions in the future. I'd like poker to be my career eventually, so I know I need some techniques to have a more disciplined, consistent approach to the game.

Any feedback is highly appreciated.

Like, perfect example. Just now, I busted on the bubble of a sng I was doing pretty well at most of the way through. Then I decided to play a cash game, and got an all in bluff called by ace high... sigh... it's like I know these things are bad plays, and I shouldn't be making them, the bad bankroll management, bad bluffs, having fits when things dont fo my way (I really really dont want to be a hellmuth).

It's just... how do I filter myself in the moment so this kind of stuff doesn't happen? It's like, I know that I'm being illogical, yet I do it anyway. It's really frustrating and its turning my probably at least break-even understanding of strategy into major downswings.

tilt

The first step you've already given is to recognize that you need emotional management, the tip I give you is to realize when your performance falls to stop a little playing we need to get accustomed to the tilt phase of good luck I also try to make my emotional management

Make sure to get away from the computer on breaks to clear your head. If something big has happened, I like to just take a drink of water and just calm down for a few seconds before I next act.

Thanks guys! I'll try doing a little routine loke: take a sip of water, take a deep breath, have a little stretch, and get away from the screen. I think having a little ritual like that might be better than stomping around hahaha

You recognize there's a problem, which is a good start. Really it sounds like you need to tighten up your game. Make a list of your biggest flaws play wise, and fix them at freeroll tables. It's a different style of play, but you'll get to work on your mistakes for free. Also, I like to keep this in mind. You can't win a poker in one hand or one level, but it can sure as hell be lost in one.

My friend, i would n't plan on making poker a career but perhaps a passion, which if you enjoy and are good at then you will succeed in. A beloved hobby, let's say.
But a "career "implies a steady reliable income source which no game of chance can really be. If i may be so humble to advise, i would find a passionate career that provides a steady income for you to enjoy your passionate hobby of poker.
just an inkling.:)

I would set yourself for a stop-loss. Typically, that is specific to the amount you can lose in a day but in your case, maybe leave it at a set number of SNGs you can play and stick to only tourneys or only cash games
