Imho to improve the level of your game you should watch poker videos, take lessons and practice;)

I think that playing variants of poker other than NL can help to improve the general understanding of the game.

Sit-go is recommended for beginners. MTT when you get used to it.

Well, just like track and field, you need to try the different events to see which may provide you the most success. I would try heads up, 9 player( for final table experience), 18 person play, MTT, and the different poker variants such as omaha, omaha hi lo, stud draw, etc. to see if anything shows you are a natural winner. Then dont lose all your winnings playing a variant you enjoy more.

I think poker is this game, you just need to watch videos of professional poker players or practice more and everything will get better every day
