If it happens only once for a player, most likely it is clicking the wrong button. It can happen especially for players who are playing multiple tables. But if a player does that more than once, it could be a strategy. Many players, including myself, have a hard time folding marginal hands after the flop, and if you are one of those players is better to throw away playing garbage hands even for free than folding. I know without a doubt that if I adopted that strategy since I started playing poker I would be much better off. If you have garbage in the big blind and make one pair, the most likely thing that will happen is that you either check your hand to the end and win a small amount, or raise and your opponents fold, best case scenario. If you are raised, are you going to fold? What if you are on a draw? If you play garbage hands for free in the big blind, you better make a plan, like calling a raise only with 2 pair of better after the flop and stick to it, otherwise doing what those "stupid" people are doing might be the more profitable thing for you. I haven't done that yet, but I am going to try it, especially in tourneys.

If it's online, and you're not seeing the same player do it again and again - it may just be the result of mis-clicking.

haha indeed
I think we all have misclicked atleast one time.

If you are in small blind posititon or other early position, your hand will be shown, before showing other stronger hands. It will be hidden only if there is somebody with a stronger hand BEFORE you.

Thanks.

So does that reflect what happens when playing live?

Does the showdown start to the left of the dealer and then proceed until the best hand is shown - after which the other hands fold without showing?

Maybe they mark fold instead of check before, or maybe they don't have anything and they don't want to take chances with small pair when on the flop exist a possibility of straight or flush.

Mostly this is just going to be the result of a mis-click or lack of attention, like folding when the only other player in the hand is & has been sitting out.

I noticed a few players folding instead of checking after the flop.

So they are already in the pot. There is no bet. They could check and see the trun but instead they fold.

Even if there hole cards are no good there is still they possibility of a pair on the turn and even a trip on the river so why fold when there is no cost to stay in and see what happens?

It would be interesting for me to know in what type of game they did this in, among other things. I personally see no advantage (in a general sense) in folding EVER, when we are early to act, and have nothing in our hand. Dynamically, yes, there can be cases where you do this.. but then only with a reason....

This was just playing casually on Zynga.

I am trying to learn the basics and it is good easy practice for calculating pot odds etc.

I am guessing these players were noobs like myself and were folding unnecessarily.

One poster above said he folds sometimes when he playing multiple tables.

I find observing the behaviour of other players to be very useful. It must be difficult to get a picture of other players styles when playing multiple tables.

When I said "I see no sense, in folding ever" I meant when we are still in the hand post flop. Sorry, I should have made this clear.

Anyone ever hear that this can void a bad beat jackpot? Our local casino has their dealers mention this, and I really can't see the logical explanation to this idea?

Can you clarify? What does "void a bad beat jackpot" even mean?

I fold on purpose, if i did not want people seeing the cards i went in on and i totally missed on the flop after calling a large bet preflop. I do this under the assumption that there are going to be more raises and i dont feel like looking after my subpar hand. You know the kinda hand. I hold ace 2 suited clubs and three hearts flop. Or I am chasing a good payout and bet with 78 suited preflop and flop is kqj rainbow.

Also, some of my poker sites fold my hand if i do not hit the check button. Very unfair, but some poker software does this.

I don't know, which rules apply in playing live, but I think folding instead of checking should be possible. I play to 99% online.

Best Regards
