Often it is -EV to be chasing any draws at all, but if you are heads-up, in position, and have the lead, then in some cases it could be +EV to c-bet on the flop and perhaps fire a second barrel on the turn against a passive opponent while having decent fold equity.

Assuming that you agree with this, let's consider the following situation where you are heads-up, in position, and have the lead.

You have:

:ah4: :kc4:

and you are on the BTN. The CO open-raises to 3BB. You 3-bet and the CO calls.

Then the flop comes:

:jd4: :10c4: :3d4:

Do you c-bet on the flop? Probably, right? Suppose you bet around 1/2 the pot. The CO calls.

Then the turn comes:

:6s4:

Do you fire a second barrel? If not, do you check-fold or check-call?

And now suppose that the turn was this instead:

:6d4:

Do you change your strategy?

In any situation? In general, you are right, but I will repeat that we have the following advantages:

  • We are heads-up.
  • We have position on the villain.
  • We have the lead, meaning that the villain will most likely check to us on the flop.
  • We have AK, which can beat all hands that have missed the board.

If a second barrel is sometimes warranted, wouldn't that be now?

Edit: check-fold or check-call is obviously impossible if you have position on your villain. So assume I meant "check behind" instead.

So what would you do in the given situations? I have described two different turn events.

Chasing straights in this situation is a mistake. I would fold the first bet
