This is a discussion on changing wild cards? within the online poker forums, in the Learning Poker section; Hello. This is my first post and I apologize if this has been discussed before. I would like to settle an argument between my son
Hello. This is my first post and I apologize if this has been discussed before. I would like to settle an argument between my son and I. We are playing simple 5 card poker. He thinks that if you change what cards are wild that you decrease the odds of getting wild cards. By this I mean I have a better chance of getting wild cards if I only chose deuce's for wild cards hand after hand. If I change what is wild every time I deal I have less of a chance of getting wild cards. My theory is that there are 4 wild cards in a 52 card deck. No matter what I chose to be wild I have the same odds of getting wild cards no matter what is wild. He is very smart and good at math and tells me I am wrong. He says if I keep 2’s wild I have a better chance of getting wild cards. I have searched all over the net and cannot find anything to say who is right or wrong.
I need solid proof with pictures or a math formula or something. He is 17 and knows everything. Please help me!
I'm pretty sure you're right. the only thing I could think of is that if you keep the wild card the same, the odds will be increasing each time you deal a card that isn't it? but then again this would reset every time you dealt the cards. Sorry I can't offer any definitive proof.
The proof is the number of cards don't change and the number of wild cards done change. Each time you have a 13-1 chance of getting a wild card. 4 possible or of 52. Just because someone says something with conviction doesn't make he or she correct.
