Americas Cardroom: How do I make 10$ into 1000$?
Hi, my name is Dave, and my wife is Alaura. We are new to online poker generally. In real life I consider myself a mediocre to advanced player. I also seem to have a great knack for bluffing, and knowing when i'm beat. But speaking of BEAT, how about bad beats? I'm grinding in low stakes, and i'm dominating in some zone poker on bovada. I went from 25$ to 500$ in 5 hours. Make 210$ through zone poker, and the rest through a lucky blackjack streak. However, I up to stakes and decide to risk it all. so i take my entire stack into a higher stake zone poker game. I go on this cooler, then I hit a heater right? I hit pocket bullets, and call a 3-way all in. Flop, A, 2, 3. Im representing trips. The beat comes, when the opponent has 4,5 suited.. I lose it all. First off, who the hell calls a 500$ all in with 4, 5 suited? Im not a shortstack and they should know im not bluffing AN ENTIRE POT FOR A DAMN 40$ backraise. So Let me explain. Me and my girlfriend have spent the last year homeless. We just recently got jobs and got our own place. I am a very impressive naturaly poker player. Even before knowing strategies such as 3-betting, c-betting, bluffing. I was always good at reading my online opponents by every move they made, and the time it took them to call. I could spot flatting and silent monster hands on the fly. But I spent our entire rent money on an emotional swing to regain that 500$ Now that i'm more benevolent and ready to make a career at grinding again, I would love some advice. I grew up in the streets, I am a hard person to read and able to read people as if i'm psychic. OF course noone is more powerful than the luck of the draw. So now I left bovada due to reports of superusers, botting, etc. Loved the site due to soft players, but there is something off about Bovada, so I recently switch to America's Cardroom. I have 11.50$ to play with. I was to make rent, and my fiance is highly upset with me. Her birthday is Oct 15, and I want to present her with a respectable bankroll and buy her something nice. My job isnt enough. I need someone to help or advice me on how to grind 11.50 into something bigger. Any advice? EVERY little detail helps. Thank you so much for reading, and i'm ready to learn from everyone, if you're willing to contribute! Thanks,
Dave & Alaura

My first bit of advice I would give you is to get your financial life in order before you even think about playing poker again. Set-up a savings, put money aside, or whatever you need to do in order to able to pay your rent, bills, food, gas, entertainment, etc and if you have anything left over, you might be able to put that towards poker. You might have to go about this for a few months in order to build a bigger bankroll to deposit, but trust me, life will be so much easier if you separate your life bankroll and your poker bankroll. Ultimately, it's all up to you, but I would put a lot of though into it and what's more important: being able to play poker online or being able to pay your rent on time?
I'd say rent is more important. You've been homeless before, so I'd hate to see something happen just because you decided to play poker instead. Also, if you're playing poker because you need to win big in order to pay rent or whatever, then you're setting yourself up to fail. Not saying you can't hit a big score for nice cash, but that's probably not going happen. It's nothing against your skill as a player, but you just can't rely on hitting it big to be your way out of things. Also, if you're playing with scared money: as in you can't lose it or you'll be broke/you need to win, then you aren't playing your best game because thoughts of losing will impair your judgement. So, make a deposit when everything is going good and you can play without "having" to win. It makes it a whole lot easier and if you do cash big, it's just a bonus. My next bit of advice is that going on a heater doesn't mean you're a good player. Anyone can go on heaters, win big, and a lot make the same mistake you did and try to move up to quickly just to get busted. Playing for 5 hours and running $25-$500 is quite the heater, but that's not an accurate measure of your skill level. So, I would say to make be ease back on any claims you might have as you'll learn that poker is a long term game. Some players might do extremely well for a short period of time, but as they play, things balance out and they aren't as skilled as they thought. Learn about bankroll management. Like I said about separating your life roll and your poker roll, you'll also need to learn about bankroll management for both in able to live and play comfortably. When it comes to your life roll, the balance is making sure you have enough put aside to pay for everything and to not dip into that. For example, if your total bill for the month is $2500 and you have $2500 set aside to pay for those bills, you aren't going to dip into that and take $500 to pay for a shopping spree because that money is important and you want to make sure it's there. The same thing with poker; if you have $20 in an account and can't deposit anymore, you don't want to play a $20 MTT because you'll likely bust out and wont be able to play any more. Seeing as you have an $11 BR, play the smallest buy-in games possible and take advantage of any freerolls available. This might not get your to a $1000 fast, but for the majority of online players, it doesn't work that way. It's a slow and steady grind.

This is a joke.... right?
How to run $10 up to $1,000? I don't know... I'm about a breakeven player & don't have that kind of experience to share with you. Maybe play a tournament & cross your fingers?

I only posted 10% of the information necessary for advice
I understand bankroll management. Also I failed to inform more as I didn't see it necessary because I expected mature and professional advice. So far the first post, who adviced me on bankroll management was the only legitimate response. I wasn't homeless due to my lack of knowledge, or some stigmatic gambling addiction. I was a heroin addict. I've been clean almost a year now. Before my life fell into Soviet-Russia quality of living, I was a beast at poker. I studied the game tapes. I read books, I even got council and advice on bankroll management. I used to grind upwards of 20k a month down to 1k a month depending on my finances. Poker was my baby. I adopted it and adored it's methods. From mathematics, to psychiatry. From luck to making your own luck. I fell in love with it. What i'm looking for in this post is fresh advice. Maybe cutting-edge. Poker attracts brilliant minds more than google inc. People who believe they're poker players but could possibly be renouned lawyers, or salesman that could sell a half smoked cigarette to the TRUTH guys. Stop flaming first of all. Don't post, unless you have a very unique and out-of-the-box mindset. I don't need the bankroll management lecture. The only reason I mentioned homelessness was to attract compasstionate intellectuals...not wannabe dr phils. So **** off with that eh? I have three jobs now, i'm a sober and clean individual. I've read many books. But i'm looking for strategical advice. I have a savings set aside for poker, 500. But I am so frugal these days. Current poker strategies are stale, and played out. Any good shark can read. These days most fish are even aware of typical strategy. Does anyone have personal strategies they'd like to share? Ways of starting micro and building to macro high stakes? Anything beyond playing in position. MTT: Stay soft early, passive aggressive mid, and cherish your chips late playing 10-AS or higher. I'm not here to speculate. I am also no moron. I have money. And I dont play scared poker. I once lived in a tent in -20 below weather, because heroin cost me practically my life. I almost died, I rose from that and am just looking to have some fun. This is recreational, it isn't meant to pay the bills. I stated I wanted to get my wife something nice for her birthday. Something like a trip to vegas, she's never been to a live casino and i'd like to share that experience with her. So this whole posts' purpose is just some advice from someone who isn't a complete moron or some stale strategist who thinks they are some poker rainman. No testosterone, and please no narcissism. Just post your personal strategies if you wish, for me and others to study. Contribute don't dispute f****kers.

Current poker strategies aren't stale at all. Even the oldest, most basic strategies stand the test of time. It might not be the most exciting or flashy style of play, but poker doesn't always have to be flashy in order to be successful. Honestly, any smart, thinking poker player can make a profit and do well if they follow good BRM because it helps them get through the run of bad variance. Of course, since you know BRM already, I'll skip this topic.
Though, I have to question how you go from grinding 20K a month to 1K a month because of finances if you're following good BRM... I don't like to assume, so I'll let you explain...maybe this happened during your heroin addiction...but this just sounds like poor BRM. Or maybe you don't fully understand BRM as much as you think. To be honest, you're not going to get a lot of replies giving you "cutting-edge advice" or "new poker strategies" in this thread simply because there are way too many variables and situations to consider. Your best bet would to post questions about different situations you have questions about so the replies can be directly about that. Also, your wife's birthday is Oct. 15? Are you saving for a belated gift or for next year? Also, if you have $500 set aside for poker, why are you asking how to play with $10? Better yet, why don't you use that or a part of that money for your wife? Seems selfish of you to keep that money aside just for you and to make your wife wait for her gift until you've built enough money for her. And is the casino the best place to take her for her birthday or do you think you're really going so you can sit at a table?

I wish I could give that kind of edge to you Dave, but I can't. Reading your post I get the impression you are trying to trade the rush of one addiction for the rush of another. Once you can turn that $25 into $500 on a daily bases every month, you will have learned more than those short cuts would profit you. Share some of those insights with us and help us to raise to the top. I would be eager to hear. As far as taking your wife to Vegas, Go. Let her enjoy the lights, the shows, the food, the tourism, the Hover Dam, Lake Mead and so much more for her enjoyment. But don't BURN her out by taking her to Vegas, to some casino, sitting in some chair watching you grind out $25 to $500 for 10 hours. Her rush may not be the same as your rush. Look forward to seeing you at the tables Dave. I know I will learn from you and your experience. Just saying---r

re: Poker & Americas Cardroom: How do I make 10$ into 1000$?
The only opinion i can give is to start building your bankroll slowly. You can start with the minimum $0.55 re-entry on demand $25 gtd tourney. But for touney with this kind of field or larger youll need atleast 75 BI.

Yo dave best advice bro is to just find a job because it's not realistic to make money like that in poker so I would start working for a bankroll and if I was you I wouldn't play online either I would play live online poker for American players is kind of a stupid idea in my opinion you sound like your stuck a bit financially but who gives a **** shit happens but I wouldn't recommend poker just yet first you need a bankroll with at least 20 buyins for cash games if you fail to get at least twenty even if your the best player in the world your gonna go on a downswing at some point and you'll be Busto and that's if your a winning player. I would highly recommended picking up poker after you sort out your financially problems because the odds are poker will not be your quick fix.

I actually pulled it off last week. I had $7.00 transferred from one of my poker online friend. Played micro mtt 3.30 1500 gtd, i took 2nd place for 228.00 , shoulda been 1st but my internet D/C when i had 4 million chips against 2 other players who had 1 million chips each.
from there I was bubbling into the money on the micro and low MTT, i final tabled more than usual and built a schedule on playing 500gtd and 200 gtd that run late.. , and even cashed out twice using moneygram, and i sold about total 265.00 of my acr and got paypal in return. But before this had happened, I was playing the micro MTT whenever I could so having experience in those games gives an edge and also late registering helped. But I think what really helped was when i first jumped on 40.00 jackpot table for the first time after giving a shot at the 10.00 jackpot tables.. I decided to give it ago even when i was underrolled, i just wanted to take one shot at it. First 40.00 buy in , i won the $160 pot, and took down a few $240.00 table. i lost a few hundred but If i think those 40.00 games really forced me to play better and somehow I succeed in winning more than losing. After i took some money out, I paid back money I borrowed, I even went to play Live at the cardroom. Limit 3/6=$105 profit in an hour is good enough. I played 80.00 on bovada which I regret. It was all good last week. lol . So if you want to know if its possible. I would say yes its very possible. you can see it on my sharkscope ... search for Mr.ponder (WPN) Its not the most legit stats, but it is proof . Just gotta keep riding the waves . lol If I had to do it all over again , i probably wouldn't. But if I was rolled in playing the $40.00 games, I think thats a really great way to build up and very profitable .

Why are you coming here asking for advice then? It seems like you have it all figured out! Honestly not trying to be a dick I'm just curious as to why you need advice if you used to grind like you say!
