I've heard the saying, "In poker, Tight is Right." And I can agree for the most part. But for someone new to the game, how could they tell the difference between being a tight player and being a nit? How tight is too tight? What hands would a true nit limit themselves to and how would they play them?

do not be afraid to be tight. Learning a tight game is the first step. But then you must expand your range. The mistake of most players from the fish class is that they play too much and pay too much for their weak hands (those who play tight).

it is necessary to play tightly and aggressively, against maniacs only play good hands and in a position on it.

Nit: Get in as cheap as possible with most PP, get max value with premium hands and stay away from speculative hands and rarely 3/4-bet.

Play them: steal often but back off against aggression.
