You can always raise a small amount with them, see what the flop brings and fold if you don't like it. Let's say someone raises, then someone 3 bets, then someone shoves, and now its on you and you look down at JJ...well int that case get rid of them. JJ are a very good starting hand and only 3 others beat it preflop but taking a look at the flop with a pot size raise would be my advice. Also depends on which spot you get them, dealer button they look a lot better then UTG.

Radher raise 3-4xBB. If the previous player raised 2xBB then reraise 4xBB, if the previous player raised 3-5xBB then call and see the flop.

Thank you for posting

If you’re playing in games where Villains do not fold their paint hands or Ax then you should play JJ like a small pair. This will limit your losses and let you fold when V raises you when 1 over card is present.

Hope this helps

in the early stages of an all-in tournament, you can only go with KK or AA . against the spectrum of all other hands you will be behind

I think JJ is not a good enough hand to go all in early. You will mostly only get called by better hands and you miss value when everyone folds. I think a standard size raise is your best option early in the tourney.

Like you I have had at the minimum mixed results with JJ and early I don't feel it is a great hand to play too hard ... too many will hold any ace or any king even way early in a tournament and those same will bet like they have the nuts if a ace or king pops ... in my opinion JJ early and even later on in a tournament should play with caution ....

I like to look at it like it's really the same as pocket 8s or so because so many hands that people hold onto like gold can beat it ... not much for fit or fold but in this case when an overcard shows on the board and there is a lot of action .. you are prolly beat, and maybe it's best to just forget how high in the ranks it sits, and let it go .... after all even aces aren't guaranteed to win even if they are the best starting hand ... seems like a lot of hoping and wishing for JJ to hold up long against much .....

Thank you for your post. I don't recommend this play with JJ. A standard raise will be better. If the flop has no over cards feel free to be aggressive. Going all in preflop with JJ early in a MTT tournament is risky because you're usually only getting called by AA,KK,QQ, and AK a large percentage of the time and you are in very bad shape against these cards. Raise preflop and play extremely cautious to a preflop 3 bet and over cards postflop. Good Luck

Good Luck To All:cool:

Very good points I didn't get to ... too many only know the all-in game, and they do not know it well .. it, like anything else is situational and a tool in your kitbag to be used when appropriate... So many people lack the ability to just play poker they only think in terms of all -in or fold, that is a big mistake .. you will see these people go busto way sooner than they should, and they represent large numbers of the micro-freeroll games and tournaments community .....

I blame Evelyn Ng and her silly chapter for newer players that was written for Dnegs book Power Hold'em Strategy ... I think too many took that and ran with it not knowing why except somebody told them to, to me, any strategy that teaches you how NOT to play poker and avoid anyone that does is a fail ..... it may work for a minute but won't last very long at all ....

I think I lost 90% of the hands I played with JJ, hahaha. It's kind of a curse to me. I prefer 88

Go with such hand all in you count on luck. Why not make 3 bet to start?

very risky cards J.J. You play or you don't play everything depending on the situation and the tournament you play I think.

JJ All-in!?!?

JJ I do not have good experience mostly I lost about so

At a cash game in a casino, an opponent had JJ and I had AK-suited. We both re-raised each other pre-flop until we were both all-in and he ended up winning with that pocket pair. Intuition, luck, stupidity? I don't know, maybe a little of everything.

Online, I wouldn't go all-in with JJ pre-flop. I don't think JJ has ever worked out for me anyway. Plus, you never know who has the QQ, KK, or AA and the community cards end up being something boring like 2, 4, 7, 9, 10.

Good luck!

Playing with JJ is different by the situation and position,
say you are in CO and UTG has made 3 times bet, you called and the BTN made 9 BB bet, this is not the spot that you wanna go all-in with JJ

Yeah I usually raise about 3 or 4 bbs to see if anyone starts salivating, and if nothing over a 10 flops with no flush cards I'll use the same technique to see if they have higher pockets or tripped lower ones etc

All-in preflop is always dangerous.
Wait for the flop and :jd4: comes
Three of a kind is very good.

It is not a good call. JJ should be played with caution. Raise is the appropriate preflop

I like this strategy. JJ looks strong, but AT+ calls preflop all in.

Personally I try to see as many flops as possible in the early stages of a tournament cheaper than all in. Obv this definitely includes JJ, I rather not be all in so early but I am willing to get it in against certain players and rebuy tournaments. Ideally I would rather see a flop before committing all my chips but sometimes you have to make the call.

I don't like them. I will generally play passively with them unless I'm really short. JJ and AJ I think are overrated. I would rather play J10 or J9 suited.
