I believe that with good skill, we can reduce our losses when we face a lucky one.
and when we are lucky, having skill we can win much more.

Whenever I see a thread similar to this one, this quote from Jesse May comes to mind.
“Poker is a combination of luck and skill. People think mastering the skill part is hard, but they're wrong. The trick to poker is mastering the luck.”

Luck prevails in poker

Luck decides the cards you get, it decides the board also
A skill will allow you to play in certain situations, but when luck is not there no matter how you play you will lose

Both are fundamental because it's no use having all the skill and not having a bit of luck, the villain always wins by luck in the end.

What do you consider more important: luck or skill in poker?
For me, luck is more important. Without luck, you definitely won't win, but without skills, you can be a winner. We can improve our skills on our own, but I think it's quite difficult to improve our luck :)

I think poker is luck, it's a game of chance, I don't think it's similar to chess.

The main thing is skill; an aggressive style of play requires luck.

In poker, both luck and skill play important roles, but over the long term, skill prevails. Luck influences individual hands, as cards dealt are random and can lead to surprising outcomes. However, skilled players make better decisions based on odds, psychology, and strategy, allowing them to consistently profit over time. While luck can sway short-term results, skill ensures long-term success. Players who rely solely on luck eventually lose, while those with solid strategies and discipline will outlast the variance and come out ahead.

What do you consider more important: luck or skill in poker?
Sometimes luck is more important, sometimes skills are more important, depending on the situation. At least for me it looks like that. But one thing is certain, both skills and luck are key factors. I think the ratio of skills to luck is 50%/50%.

80 % luck and 20 % skills, but i would like to mention that the skills get you în the money and with luck you win tourneys 🤙 and I think that the first step îs the most important 😁

Hi, I don't think you can build poker on luck, at least 90% skill and 10% luck

Wow 🤩 I think that this community brain 🧠 it’s just one big brain. I was thinking the same thing, I was just thinking about making a post about how lucky you have to be to be a poker professional. I am still going to start a thread but with a different title. Anyway I think that people who make a living playing poker are the luckiest people in the world.because you have to win your flips as in coin 🪙 flip. Game of chance. You can see the other players cards and know you have him dominant and still lose .and that’s why we love the game because anyone can win. But long term the more skilled players will win more. Just make sure to have a bankroll or two.

Skill but you still need luck, otherwise great players would not go on large down swings.

I think luck is a big component to winning in poker, but if you do not have enough skill then you will end up losing all the money if you play long enough.
Facts, luck is crucial but you can't rely on luck alone. Without the skill, you won't make it in the long run

My brain tells me that skill is most important, but my experience tells me the opposite.

If you have two equally skilled players, one is lucky and one is not, who wins the game? If one has lots of good luck over the long term (25 years for example) and the other has lots of bad luck over the same period, who becomes rich?

View attachment 370021

And, if you argue that the odds are that each will be lucky or unlucky the same amount of the time on average, consider that the odds are based on an infinite number of tries. So yes, over a million years it WILL all average out. But the next 25 years represent a tiny, tiny fraction of a million years (0.0025% or 1/40,000). So the odds that each will be equally lucky/unlucky over the next 25 years are astronomically low.

only us players are the guinea pigs because the big bosses just laugh at it

Skill will win tournaments in the long run, you don't want to rely on luck!

In the moment - luck, in the long run - skill and nothing else.
