For those not willing or able to click through and sit to watch a video that should simply be a list, here are the movies:

1. The Grand
2. Rounders
3. 21
4. 7 Days to Vegas
5. Mississippi Grind
I absolutely love The Grand. It's my favorite on the list, I find it so hilarious the way the caricatures of players come out, and how accurate it can be despite being over exaggerated.

I would add:
Maverick (1994), it has an amazing cast and is genuinely funny.
The new Casino Royal with Daniel Craig - action adventure and poker.
The Cincinnati Kid has Steve McQueen turning in a great performance.

What are your favorites?

I think "rounders" is undersold as the greatest poker movie of all time, it's just one of the greatest movies of all time. I think anyone would love this move. It is so much better than Good Will Hunting which gets all the acclaim. Matt Damon's performance in Rounders is far superior, and he has an absolutely stellar supporting cast. The movies works at both levels too. If you know nothing of poker it's a great movie, but instead of the poor treatment it usually gets, the poker in the movie is spot on. I mean, Teddy KGB!!! Awesome movie.

I watched 'Mississpi Grind' this afternoon, on Prime - not a bad movie starring Ryan Reynolds. There are a bunch we just do not have offered with the Canadian version of Netflix or Prime.

People which will become crazy for movies with the topic poker would maybe also like "Molly's Game". A real gambling serie is "Luck", which has horsebetting in they focus. Unfortunately this one isn't continued after season 3.

Oh that's right! I watched Molly's Game the other week. It was pretty good, too - good story.

Rounders, 1998

Here's a list of poker-related movies you might have access to, so why not check them out if you haven't already!

5 Poker and Gambling Related Movies to Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime (VIDEO)

Hey yo dear Shells, thank you very much for posting such interesting news for the CardsChat community! We appreciate your work here a lot!
Now, I like very much movies and I got myself into 1998' Rounders, with Edward Norton and Matt Damon, besides this movie came before the Chris 'MoneyMaker' Poker Boom, that changed our lives forever, and this is why we are here, thanx to the Cinema industry and to Chris 'MoneyMaker' that open up the way for us to be playing now. :D

A note about Rounders, 1998

If you didn't watch the movie, don't read it. The main character of the movie, played by Matt Damon, is not acquainted with Responsible Gambling, which is something no poker player can ever deny.
The character of the movie has 30 thousand dollars, which are its savings in order to pay his College's tuition. But, the character is not a professional poker player, because he decided to take all of its savings, go for a suspicious High Stakes/Mafia poker club at night, and got coolered with Full-House, being forced to work much more and to deal with a very complicated psychological issue for itself and for his girlfriend. What do we do now with our college, how do we pay our tuition now that we lost 30 thousands bucks in one single hand! Desperation? Suicide? What good could come from this?
We poker players are not risking our houses, our families, or anything that is not on our plan/monthly budget: if we are taking money from our own personal economy, compromissing it on a scenario or either we win everything or we lose at all, we should never, ever be thinking about poker!
So, when I decide to deposit 50, 100 bucks at PokerStars is because this money is not important, it will make no difference on my daily economy or the wealth and well being of my family.
Now, if I am a person without financial structure, and I decide to deposit 50 bucks at a poker room, and I will let to do something, or private myself or my family of having/buying anything, then, I should never be doing it:
People talk too much about the 1% and it is what it is: poker is a privilege of those who have time and financial structure. If we are worried about how to pay the next month bills, we should not be playing poker, because we do not have the proper mindset, we will never have mindset/emotional control if we are putting our necks on the table. But it seems that the main character of the movie has godlike readings (impossible) and in the end, even with a friend that this a professional thief, things go fine, because comedies should always has a happy ending. :D

Regards;

Carlos 'Aballinamion' Barbosa

I also would add Maverick and Molly’s Game. Maverick is pure entertainment with a star studded cast, really fun one to watch. Molly’s Game is a great true life story. Jessica Chastain is awesome as Molly Bloom. The real life Molly Bloom seems like an incredibly interesting human being based off what I have seen following her on Social Media. I really want to catch 7 Days to Vegas and I will look for the others on this list I haven’t seen. Rounders was very good and 21 looks at a dark side of Vegas and was very good also. Nice recommendations because I see some of us have never seen a few of these.

Wow, thanks for this list. I've seen three out of the five. I will have to check out the others. I've been spending a lot more time on poker through reading up on things and watching YouTube videos, as well as playing more since the quarantine. I will definitely have to take some time out in watching some movies.

less of a poker movie, but "lock stock and two smoking barrels" kicks off the movie with cheating at cards.

I think that the best gambling film that I've ever seen, in terms of the psychology of gambling, is the original version of The Gambler from 1974, which starred James Caan, in one one his best performances, who gambles constantly, and foolishly, not because of his addiction to gambling itself but because of his addiction to the exhilaration that comes with losing. Owning Mahony is another very good film about this subject.
