In an effort to help me play beter, I think it might be time to invest in some Poker Software. At the moment I'm playin SnGs at Party.

Any suggestions what to start with? I've seen Holdem Manager, PokerTracker 3 and SitnGo Wizard metioned frequently and others occasionally.

What would the panel suggest?

HEM & PT3 both have free trials, so try them out and decide for yourself.

SNGWiz is helpful but only if you put the time and effort into using it and using it correctly. Search the Tournament forum and you'll find a few post showing it in use and how to manipulate it. If you intend to be a serious SNG player then SNGWiz is pretty close to manditory.

Isn't SNGWiz banned by the poker rooms?

Sit and Go Wiz can be used on your system but not while playing a game. Thats software is excellent for your offline training. I would highly recommended the quiz feature in it.

As good as HEM and PT3 are, for starting out you may find them too daunting, even overwhelming with data and set-up procedures that can bury you before you even get started.

I would recommend sticking to the basics, especially if you are playing the lower limits at any site. To that end for sit and go tournaments your best option is Tournament Indicator and they too have a free trial with some easy to follow video tutorials for getting started.

lol my head explodes with too much information at once. It was too overwhelming to try and look at it all so decided to take it in steps.
I have 3 down pat and am focusing on 2 more at the moment. I am adding them slowly

Exactly the problem with HEM. Daunting learning curve. Read my post above.

Actually the quiz mode in Wiz is really awful, because the default ranges are so inaccurate. You could train yourself into making the wrong plays.

The best way to learn with SNGWiz is to set up a filter in HEM/PT3 (works best with HEM but you can still do it with PT3). This filter can sort by the number of people in the hand, your position, your stack size, etc. For example, you can filter for all hands where you have 6-8bb's in the CO and the table is 6-handed. This way you control just a small number of variables and you can actually see how they affect your shoving ranges, rather than trying to figure out from a million different variables in the game review mode.

Is the purpose of these software programs to build a historical database of the play of other players? If so, it kinda feels like cheating to me. I've heard of these programs and don't know what they are.

HEM and PT will build a historial database of play of other players that you have played against personally. This is not seen as cheating by the poker room sites.

Definitely use up your PT3 free trial. I think its great software that's easy to customize.
