When i first started playing freerolls my strategy was to play as many as i could at one time, across multiple sites, this allowed me not to get upset when my KK got busted by A4o, when i was the preflop raiser. I'd have 4 to 8 running and have others popping up(pre registered). Out of the 10 or 15 id play id only make 0-2 deep, by playing multiples you don't get distrated by not catching anything, cause you will catch something playable on one of the tables- of course I was playing long ball, and was a great strategy to learn first. As results go depends on the amount of prizes- you can play freerolls with one prize and 5000 entries, or ive played in a freeroll that had 125 prizes with 137 entries, all same prize- i sat out and won.
