Once in a while people thread about "table selection" as an edge in stt play. I multitable $6.5 stt and am usually the first to register in 7,8, or 9 of my tournaments.

I note players all I can, and use a notebook to write down screen names of players I would like to play against.

I play poker at certain times b/c of my day job. So if the fish in my notebook are not online I don't care. I'm playing anyway.

When registering for a bunch of stt can table selection be a viable goal?

What are some ways to turn table selection into an edge when multitabling stt?

Thanks for your time!

unless you know the other people in the tourney when you sign up then you cant really choose a good table. Its not like cash games where they show how aggressive/ loose the table is. It is also good to play against your non optimal opponent. That way you get experience learning how to play against their style.

When I played on partypoker years ago you could chose your seat in a SnG, if you've got notes on the oponents you can chose to sit in the best place. I don't know if they still do this or if other sites do - I'm mostly at 'Stars these days who seat randomly.

One of the drawbacks of multitabling is that you can't observe people closely, so if you have info or stats from previous games then this would be a good table to chose as oposed to a table full of strangers.

The more tables you play, the better you can table select with SnGs. What I mean is that if you take notes and play a lot, you will eventually start seeing some players again. If you have tracking software, you can review games and make note updates that you may not have had time for during the game. Color coding (you can do this on most if not all the big sites) good, bad, and middle of the road players can help you find the tables you may want to avoid or not, as the case may be. It is also easier than trying to compare SN from a notebook. But you will need LOTS of marked players before this will start to help. If you multi 7-9 tables, and play around the same times, you should start seeing players again. If you are starting the tables, you cant do anything but accept what you get (but hope you are good, then if the other regs are table selecting, then they may avoid you. If you are not good, you will be attracting the regs to your started tables.)

Hey Thanks! I do have a question. I don't currently use any tracking software. When using tracking software and reviewing hands the notes I take on a player will show up in the FTP note box the next time I play that player?

You can put notes right into Full Tilt. Right click on the player, and you will have a pop up menu that you can take notes on, and in the notes box you can chose a color, and it will be there every time that player shows up in a game or in the lobby in full tilt. You can also import your notes intp tracking software, but you dont need tracking software to take notes or color code the players you have played.

Although from your post I am not sure if you dont already know this, or if maybe you mean if notes you make in your tracker will show up in FT. That wont happen (AFAIK), but you will have all your tracking data, and you can always update notes when the situation arises. I am not sure if this answers your question, cause I am not sure exactly what you are asking, if you mean notes in the game or notes taken on review.

There is no table selection in a tournament.

You sit where you are told.

The only way you can leave a table is to go bust or be moved by the organiser.

Thats true, but I was speaking of SnGs. There are a lot of possibilities to avoid regs (or not, depending on what time and how bad you want to play) In peak times when the tables - 9 man up - fill, you can be a bit choosy which tables to sit at provided you have the resources to know players who are good or not. (Can be done)

I do take notes/colorcode the players while playing. I was curious about the note taking while reviewing hands. I do have the regs I play against well noted. You helped me out though. Thanks.

Nothing is worse than signing up for 9 tables and having 3 solid regs at each table grinding it out. It makes getting to the bubble very difficult.

With a little patience I think these regs can be "somewhat" avoided if they are playing sets. If they are playing continuous tables, not so much.
