I was thinking afterwards I should have raised on the flop. Now I dont have much info on his hand strength because I didnt. Maybe he had something like K7 or A7... Maybe he even had the jack. I don't reall know what to make of it.
It is necessary to look at the previous rounds. Did he steal the blinds? Is it tight or aggressive? If the range of hands is low, then most likely he raised with a good hand. If he's an aggressive player, he's probably just bluffing. Again, the stage of the game greatly influences. Specifically in this situation, I would have folded the cards. Pair 8 is not a very strong hand.
