Hey guys,
I'm new here to the forum, but am glad I've found an active poker forum that is relatively spam free. But anyways. I was paying attention to the $5K NL Hold'em Shootout wsop event this year and I feel its a great tournament. I love the idea behind it and I love the fact that you have to go through every stage of a tournament at every table. I want to play this event because aside from how cool I think it is, I also noticed that since most tournaments pay the top 10% of the field, you only need to beat your first table to cash. Now I know this isn't easy, but I think it's the best chance to get deep in a WSOP Hold'em event since most are 4500 deep nowadays.
So starting now, I want to start preparing myself for it, I have over a year, and I want to sharpen old skills, plug leaks, and develop new skills for this event. I'm asking for some pointers on how to prepare for this particular event. I don't know if any online sites have shootout tournaments, that would help a lot. I want to play a lot of SNGs, but not sure if that's the same thing, it's good single table practice but since more than one spot is paid, its played differently.
My history with shootouts is one tournament about 4 years ago in Turning Stone before I turned 21. I won my table, then failed the next round. I figure that I have a shot and if I continue to put money aside for this particular event, losing $5k won't sting as bad since I wouldn't use it for anything else. My one fear is that since it being a pretty big buy-in is I'll be at a stacked table. I don't want to be nervous around pros, any advice on that or anything related would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
