firstly thanks for your feedback on the 55 all in thread
I ve recently had alot of success in live tornaments and think that i am playing my best poker so far , taken the game to a next level , and putting my opponents on a more acurate range and am thinking the hands through more clearly.
Although online im getting some what better results , i am still not cashing enough to show a good profit , I have noticed that the better players with a good profit are playing very few hands , anywhere between 7-20 % dealt . I recently came 2nd in 30 buy in torney on party poker and was playing between 30 to even 40 % hands at times , is this too much ?.

Depends on table dynamics and what kind of hands you were getting. I'd look at that stat over a much longer sample size and see if it comes down a bit.

It dependes on the table.

In a lose table it may be too much, you should play less hands and tighten up your range.

But if its a generally tight table its not a bad % of hands played.

yea in tourneys it is generally too much but there are so many factors like sample size, table dynamics, your image, opponents images and so on and so on.

by saying for torneys yes , are you suggesting that for cash games its ok ?
apart from image, cards and so on should you play more hands in cash games and as a general rule should you play looser or tighter in cash games compared to torneys.

most of the time you should not be playing higher than 25% of your hands (and thats aggro). In cash games and tournaments over a long time.

I'd say you have to be exceptional postflop or be playing incredibly weak players if you can be profitable in a tournament playing more than 30%.
