Many beginners start with freerolls. There is an excellent article on the web about How to Play a Freeroll. If you'd like to PM me I'll send you the link. It goes into the mentality of the typical freeroll player, the basic strategy that you need to adopt, and how to alter your play when your stack size dwindles, and also how to play once you make it to the final table (which of course you will :).

Welcome to Cardschat.... Its ironic, that you were allowed to become a member with only one post... But, the staff here know their jobs, so I am not going to question them.
Playing freerolls are a good way to learn to play. But, it helps to play micro stakes to really learn more... Plus, you should pay attention on how the other players play to improve your game.
Good luck at the tables...

I am also new in Poker world. As many peoples say, go and start with freeroll and micro tournament that will help you to understand yourself.

First learn some basics like Strong hand, weak hand, betting strategy then start playing with this knowledge.

I read a couple of articles and watch videos in pokerstars which really help me to understand the poker.

Have you checked the strategy articles on cardschat? That's the link on your top right (next to "Forum"). Books I think really depend on the format of your choice (MTTs, Sit n Gos or cash games).

Get involved in poker strategy discussions on the forum. Besides actual play this is another really good way to pick the brains of really good players you'll find in the forums.

Why I think "The Theory of Poker" a must?

Hello everyone, I’m Christie. I’m new member here. I started playing poker very recently. Now I’m playing NLH and PLO in PokerFishS. I want to learn more poker strategy here and meet more friends. If possible, please recommend some poker books or learning materials for poker beginners. Thanks a lot.

Hi Christie,
Welcome to Cardschat. To answer your question, if you're a new player and just know the basics like hand ranking, different types of poker games, pot odds, outs, you understand the basic jest of it, and looking to play poker tournaments, then you should invest some time reading The Theory of Poker (By David Sklanksy). I know theories are boring, but the more you invest in understanding the concepts, the better poker player you'll become.
Watch some youtube review videos (I would recommend Gripsed Poker Training), it's free (No I'm not an affiliate), make sure you are able to point out when and where the theory you've read is being applied.
Once you're good with the fundamentals, you can hop on to any of the millions of poker strategy guides available, you can go the maths way and read The Mathematics of Poker (By Bill Chen)or you could read poker strategy book Harrington on Hold 'em, or The Poker Tournament Formula (By Arnold Snyder) or read the hand history reviews like Winning Poker Tournaments One Hand at a Time(by Eric Lynch, Jon Turner, and Jon Van Fleet). The choices are unlimited.

Thank you all very much for your advice! I just found that I got a bad beat with KK a looot in online poker room. :(:(:( . It's not so often in live poker, I think? To play with AA, KK is really hard.

Hi christie, there's no better way of learning than to play the game itself. Experience is the best teacher, and you must learn from the mistakes that you make during the course of your games.
Just play the freerolls first so that you dont lose any money in the process. :)

Thanks. Yes, experience is very important. I still have some doubts about the mathematics of poker. How can someone calculate his winning rate so fast?

Watch Alec Torelli videos on youtube. What ever you do no not start playing poker without understand the game on a deeper level and having good foundation. See if you can beat the lowest games that matter to you then move up.

I'm in the learning and study phase, playing in Free and micro tournaments, with study comes results, watching videos
and reading a lot, even looking for information here on old topics that are rich in information.
Yesterday I got first place in a Free tournament in PS I got $ 17 very happy for the conquest, necessary focus and persistence.

Maybe watch some instructional videos, read the forum and post some hands, and read some poker books.
