I know basics of poker but i still suck. I lost over $550 at a local casino over the weekend. I know I suck, I love the game and would even love it more if i was a winning player. over the last year i have lost over $2000 playing. I thought i was getting better but i look back and don't think i am. I still suck. I don't know how to study poker or how to get better. I have bought several courses and they didn't help because they didn't teach me how to learn. They tell you about ranges and talk about them but how do you know all that how do you come to say he has this range and these cards are better for my range than his how do you come to believe that. No one has shared that with me. That is what i need to know. If i could put people on a range and get a feel for it maybe i could become better. Can anyone tell me how to study poker. How to look at my past hands and say this is where i went wrong and this is what i should have saw when playing this hand. Anyone help me with this thanks

Have you used any poker software to evaluate your hands?
I started recording all my games and go back and look at key turning points and if i made mistakes.

I thought the ecourses on Udemy really helped me.

I think, its better and for sure a whole lot cheaper to learn the fundamentals of the game online. 2.000$ in a 1/2 live game is still only 10 buyins, and its totally normal to have downswings of this size even for winning players. So at this point you dont even know, if you "suck", or you are just running bad.

If you deposit 100$ to a poker site, you have 50 buyins for a 1/2c cash game or 20 buyins for a 2/5c cash game, and then you play at least 20k hands, before you start to evaluate your results. You can also use a tracker to collect the hand histories and analyse them in a more systematic way. PokerTracker4 has a function called "leak tracker"; which is a pretty good place to start.

When you are a proven winner online at stakes up to at least 10NL, and you have a sufficient bankroll of at least 4.000$, then you can consider moving to live poker with a decent chance to not bust your roll.

I stopped studying poker a long time ago, I think it is impossible to study poker, so I just play poker, and learn a little from my mistakes

I just play poker now and learn from each mistake. I used to read poker books, and learned a lot from them . I stopped cause using the information from books , didn't always work. I just work on my game myself , you also need to have some luck so your hands hold up if you are leading from the start.

You have to play a lot and analyze your game and opponents.

Play more.

Practice practice practice.

I know online is the popular spot, but i say forget the internet, and the hud's you'll be facing, and card sharps at micro levels, and go play live.

No better experience imo

Experience comes with the years-one theory is not enough.try to play cheap tournaments for $ 1 not to be in a big minus.analyze yourself with igranie distribution that you did not so why did you lose one time or another.you still have to come-and luck will come!

Maybe some tips can help you

1 - Most of our losses happen because we played wrong. So never tell the fault is from others, neither that player winning with 72o.

2 - Even you got only 80% spots to win, each hand give you 20% of chances to lost. If you are planning to play more than 5 hands you have close to 100% to be eliminated.

3 - Play with reason, no emotion.

4 - Love your bankroll, treat it right like it was 1 billion dollars. That money already is yours, even yougot earned from freerolls.

5 - Look for weaker players ever.

6 - With Apps or mentally, but regard the math, that is one essence of that game.

7 - Other essence is strategy, create a custom different strategy to each different villain.

8 - Other essence is watching everything about your opponents to learn how to beat them.

Playing online in 1c/2c tables is a way less punishing way of learning poker than losing at a live casino where tables are 100 to 1000 times higher just to sit at a table.

I think you have to learn first all theory and do good hand analysis. You can use calculators to do it. Know the drive license number of your opponents. Even like this you will need a stronger bankroll management and a stronger mindset. At the begin, save your money and play just to test your skill. Time to poker: studying 70% and playing 30%, time by time that proportion will changing, I believe up to about 70% playing, 30% studying, but studying ever.
Sumary: hire a coach.

First advise would be- know when to stop playing, no poker books or coaches will teach you that. I am mad at myself, cause I could not stop in time by playing and loosing all those monies on spin&goes, lost 30$, but still...
Don't bluff, be patient and wait for good hand, when you master that, then you can start bluffing. That what I was told :)
