Many years ago, I used to have above average good luck in poker. This was back in the 1990s , and I was a continual winner in poker for 3-4 years .
Those days of good luck have long since passed and I find myself in a never ending grind to try and overcome the bad beats/ cold cards. Im not a big loser in the game, but the grind is awful for the very low profits im getting each month in the live local games. I have decided that my new strategy is gonna focus on how many hands I dont win in a set time. For example :
From now on, If I am unable to win 1 hand in 2 hours of play at the table, I am going to cashout and go home and wait for another day to try again. Last week I played in a local pot limit game that has a min buy in of $300 , and as usual, I sat there for 3 hours and did not win one damn pot, nor did I split a pot { in hi lo} . I played 2 hands and got my money in with the best hand, and got drawn out on within 2 hours of play. I busted and lost my $300 buy in . I usually would rebuy , but I decided I am not gonna sit and be miserable at any poker table when my luck is so bad, that I cant even win one hand in 3 hours.
I will go to this game again tommorrow, buy in for $300 and if I dont win 1 pot within 2 hours of play, I will cash out and go home . For me , I can always tell if its gonna be a good night for me by the first 60 minutes of play and I have never been a comeback player, that loses money early, then comes back and wins money . With this new strategy , it wont be based on how much money I lose , but how few pots I win, in a designated time period, which makes me decide to quit and go home. Hopefully this strategy takes away most of the frustrations and boredom of sitting at a poker table for 8 hours, when you feel like you arent gonna win a pot all night long.
